What Hair Loss Has To Do With Preconception Health and How To Restore Your Hair and Fertility with Julie Olson

We’re digging into what thinning/shedding hair means for reproductive health.

Being told that hair shedding or thinning is normal is frustrating, especially when trying to conceive.

If you notice a noticeable change in your hair, this is a clue to examine your health more closely.

It’s not about selecting the right shampoo or serum (although this can help). It’s about determining why your hair is shedding or thinning in the first place.

Medical gaslighting is real, and being told changes in your hair are normal (nothing to worry about) is not helpful.

If you are TTC and your hair is experiencing changes, it’s time to figure out why so you can improve your hair and your fertility.

I’m excited to welcome Julie Olson to the podcast. Julie is a triple-certified nutritionist and functional medicine expert, named a “Top 23 Expert to Watch in the Health & Wellness Space” by the Los Angeles Tribune Magazine, host of the “Healthy Body, Healthy Hair: The Truth About Hair Loss” summit.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    1) What is normal hair shedding, and what type of hair loss needs to be investigated further

    2) Reasons for hair loss and solutions to help (once addressed, this improves pregnancy success, too).

    3) Biomarkers to ensure are optimal to prevent hair loss and restore hair growth

    4) Nutrition, supplements, serums and shampoo to help with hair loss

Why Getting To The Bottom of Your Anxiety Can Optimize Fertility and Improve Pregnancy Success with Dr. Traci Potterf

We’re digging into anxiety and how this impacts reproductive health.

A theme we see with low AMH and high FSH is mood problems such as anxiety.

There can be situational anxiety from being on the fertility journey, such as feeling worried, overwhelmed or impatient.

And there can also be anxiety that we may have dealt with our whole lives.

We get hyper-focused on our mental health diagnosis, and this may be a clue as to why we are struggling to conceive.

When we rebalance the nervous system, our reproductive health comes back into balance.

Today, I’m excited to welcome Dr. Traci Potterf to the podcast. Dr Traci is a Functional Health anxiety detective. She helps growth-minded professionals overwhelmed by anxiety to find and fix the hidden causes with natural solutions so they can live a limitless life at peace in their own skin.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    1) Why the gut-brain connection matters for someone on the fertility journey, and why the gut is referred to as the second brain

    2) The most common causes of anxiety (we discuss factors that influence brain health, such as digestion, microbiome imbalances/infections, blood sugar imbalance, adrenal dysfunction, thyroid problems, hormone imbalance and nutrient deficiencies) and why this matters if you are trying to get pregnant naturally

    3) The conventional approach to treat anxiety and how the functional approach can begin to regulate the nervous system and balance your mood (which helps with reproductive health)

Why Addressing Psoriasis, Acne, Rashes & Eczema Can Improve Pregnancy Success with Sururat Coulibaly

We’re digging into how skin conditions impact your ability to conceive.

If you’re struggling with skin issues such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, rashes or hives, this is a clue for you when you're TTC.

The body does not work in silos even though conventional medicine has us believe that we need to see a different specialist (i.e. dermatologist, REI, gastroenterologist etc.) for every ailment, and no one stops to think it’s all connected.

Skin conditions are a HUGE clue as to why you may struggle to conceive.

It is time to look at your whole body and not just treat the skin condition with topical creams and medication that does not address the underlying reason (hence, the skin issue just comes back).

The skin is a reflection of the gut microbiome, and the gut is highly tied to the health of the ovaries.

Today, I’m excited to welcome Sururat Coulibaly. Sururat is a mother, enthusiastic traveller, and functional wellness practitioner and coach who specializes in skin wellness. She founded The Holistic Skin Coach and Celebrate Wellness and developed the "Clear Skin Reset Program."

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    1) What skin conditions mean for fertility and how to address them (which ultimately improves reproductive health)

    2) How food sensitivities impact skin health and why nutrient deficiencies are commonly missed

    3) Some hidden root causes of chronic skin rashes such as psoriasis, eczema, rosacea and hives.

    4) What biomarkers you need to know about that can shift the needle that your dermatologist will not tell you about

Why Genomic Testing Can Help With Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, Birth Outcomes and Preconception Health with Helen Gautschi

We’re digging into genetic testing to improve pregnancy success and prevent or decrease the risk of pregnancy loss.

At Fab Fertile, we’ve been offering genetic/genomic testing as part of our method for years.

This genetic testing is very different from the testing you would receive from your conventional doctor.

Our genetic testing looks at specific gene variants and makes specific diet/lifestyle recommendations and supplements that can support your genes. Your genes are not your destiny, and there are targeted steps you can take to optimize your fertility and pregnancy success.

I’m excited to announce that we have an even better genetic test that helps improve pregnancy outcomes.

Designed to improve preconception health, birth outcomes, recurrent miscarriage, gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, the GrowBaby test identifies pathways that need support and helps us determine a customized plan based on your DNA.

I'm excited to welcome Helen Gautschi to the podcast. Helen is a registered dietician (SA) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics (Honours) degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She is also the Head of Research and Development and Education at DNAlife, which offers the GrowBaby genetic test.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    1) How the GrowBaby test can improve birth outcomes and decrease the risk for preeclampsia and gestational hypertension and diabetes and miscarriage or pregnancy loss

    2) How to support each pathway with specific diet/lifestyle and supplement recommendations

    3) Why the preconception period is critical and specific steps you can take to improve healthy birth outcomes

Why A Healthy Liver Matters For Fertility

We’re digging into how to improve liver health and what you need to know when you are TTC.

One of the themes we see with low AMH and/or high FSH is a sluggish liver.

If your liver is not functioning properly, it may not be able to remove estrogen from your body. This leads to estrogen reabsorption, which results in hormone imbalance.

Some signs of a sluggish liver include fatigue, headaches, poor digestion, cravings, weight gain around the middle and more.

So how do we get our liver in tip-top shape to balance hormones and get pregnant naturally?

Katy Bradbury is a registered nurse and nutritional therapist and part of my team here at Fab Fertile. She is our clinical advisor and an integral part of our Couples Coaching program, which uses functional lab testing, diet, and lifestyle changes to dramatically improve conception. If you are struggling with infertility, your body is desperately trying to tell you something. Focusing on your health will either help you get pregnant naturally or, if you do need to go to the fertility clinic, it will improve your chances of success.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    1) Why a healthy liver is important when you are TTC

    2) Which genetic variants are tied to the liver (and how to support them so you can optimize liver function)

    3) Symptoms of poor liver function and specific blood markers to review to ensure they are in the optimal range

    4) Diet, lifestyle and supplement recommendations for a healthy liver

How To Advocate For A Safer Birth When You Are TTC with Gina Mundy

We’re digging into safer childbirth and how to prepare for the birth of your baby.

Years ago, when I had my children, no one was talking about doulas, midwives or how to advocate for yourself during childbirth.

I remember taking a childbirth class and some Lamaze breathing with a coach, which was about it.

I didn’t know that if I wasn’t happy with my care in the hospital, I could speak up.

Fortunately for me, everything went well during the birth process for both my children (even though they were both born via c-section and labour was very long).

Did you know that more than 250,000 people in the United States die every year due to medical mistakes?

We are in charge of our health, and we have to advocate for what we need.

Today, I’m excited to welcome Gina Mundy to the podcast. Gina Mundy is an attorney who specializes in childbirth cases. For over two decades, she has analyzed the mistakes made during labour and delivery. Drawing on this knowledge, she has authored the book A Parent's Guide to a Safer Childbirth.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    1) The most common problems that occur during childbirth and how YOU can help prevent them

    2) Labour and delivery lingo you NEED to know to communicate with your delivery team

    3) The RIGHT way to pick your doctor and hospital for a less stressful delivery

    4) Tips for when your delivery team is NOT at your bedside

    5) The EASY way to determine how your baby is doing at any point during labour

    6) How to create the ULTIMATE birth plan for keeping both you and your baby safe

Why Your Preconception Health Is Vital For A Healthy Pregnancy and Postpartum Period with Dr. Labib Ghulmiyyah

We’re digging into how to improve preconception health when we are TTC.

It feels like we need to rush to medicated cycles, IUI or IVF to fast-track the chances of having our baby.

After all, this is what happens when we receive a diagnosis of low AMH, high FSH, diminished ovarian reserve or premature ovarian insufficiency.

    At Fab Fertile, we're not anti-IVF; we’re pro-health.

When we move prematurely to IVF, we miss crucial steps to work on our health.

During the preconception period, we are in a very powerful position to make targeted changes that positively impact our fertility and our child's health.

But what are the exact steps we need to take right now?

Dr. Labib Ghulmiyyah is Board-certified in OBGYN/Maternal Fetal Medicine and Functional Medicine and is part of Fab Fertile as our medical advisor. He's an integral part of our Couples Coaching program, which uses functional lab testing, diet, and lifestyle changes to dramatically improve conception.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    1) Why the preconception period is so crucial for postpartum health and the health of your child

    2) Complications during pregnancy and how to be your own health advocate

    3) Postpartum symptoms and understanding baby blues vs true postpartum depression

    4) Functional lab tests that can help improve preconception and postpartum health

    5) Factors that influence low milk supply and what you can do

    6) How to minimize toxin exposure and supplements to help with detoxification

What Biomarkers Are Needed To Determine When To Start IVF (Especially If You Have Low AMH and/or High FSH)

We’re digging into how to know if IVF is next step if you have low AMH and/or high FSH.

What we see with low AMH/high FSH when a couple selects IVF (without making targeted diet/lifestyle changes) is cancelled cycles, poor response to medications, poor embryo quality, and miscarriages.

This is financially and emotionally devastating.

So what is the fast track to getting pregnant with low AMH and/or high FSH?

The fast track is taking a targeted approach with your health.

You’ll either get pregnant naturally or improve the chances of IVF success.

Sometimes IVF is necessary. So how do we know when/if IVF is the right next step?

What biomarkers do we need to know to be able to make an informed decision about whether IVF is our next step?

This episode is for you if:

    1) You’ve tried diet/lifestyle changes, and you feel like IVF is the next step

    2) You’re not sure how to optimize for successful IVF

    3) You feel like something is being missed, but your REI keeps telling you that you’re running out of time

    4) You’ve already experienced failed IVF, and they want to rush you to another retrieval and/or transfer (sometimes with the same protocol)

    5) You feel hesitant to rush back in again without making targeted changes to your health
