Mark Humphries: the man who ruined TV news forever?

When writer and comedian Mark Humphries joined the Seven Network earlier this year to host a satirical segment for the 6pm national news bulletin, the announcement was met with endless headlines and heated social media commentary.

So why has three minutes of weekly television been the subject of so much debate?

Sitting down with the Stellar podcast Something To Talk About, Mark opens up to host Sarrah Le Marquand about what he calls “hostility to new ideas”, whether he still dreams of hosting the Logies - and gets serious about what it means to be a man, and a divorced dad, in modern Australia.

You can catch Mark Humphries on The 6.57pm News every Friday on the Seven Network.

Mark, satirist James Schloeffel and comedians Charles Firth and Veronica Milsom will tour nationally with The War On 2024 Annual Comedy Gala from November 27.

Something To Talk About is a podcast by Stellar, hosted by Editor-In-Chief Sarrah Le Marquand.

Trying to be “hot” can be hell. Just ask Lucinda “Froomes” Price

Lucinda Price, aka Froomes, grew up in the mid-2000s, when being hot was a commodity. As a teenager, the now well-known writer, comedian and presenter decided that hot was all she ever wanted to be. She even had her first cosmetic surgery procedure when she was 17. Now she has written her first book, All I Ever Wanted Was To Be Hot – part memoir and part social commentary, it dives into why pop culture makes women feel bad about their bodies.

On today’s episode of Something To Talk About, Froomes joins Sarrah Le Marquand to discuss her experience of developing and then recovering from an eating disorder, the toxic impact of pop culture on young women and the current obsession with weight-loss injections.

If you’re struggling with an eating disorder, contact The Butterfly Foundation

All I Ever Wanted Was To Be Hot by Lucinda Price (Pantera Press, $34.99) is out now.

Tim Minchin thinks we’re doing ambition all wrong

Eleven years ago, Tim Minchin gave a speech that went viral. The Matilda The Musical composer, who was being awarded an honorary doctorate at The University of Western Australia, shared his nine life lessons with the graduating class – and to say it struck a chord with the world is to put it mildly. It has since clocked more than five million views.

Now he’s turned that speech into a book called You Don't Have To Have A Dream. He joins Sarrah Le Marquand in the studio to discuss luck, micro-ambition, the poison of social media, compassion and infidelity. It gets a bit philosophical, but the thing about Tim is, he bares his soul in everything he does. And this conversation proved to be no different…

You Don't Have To Have A Dream by Tim Minchin (Penguin, $36.99) is out September 10, and available for pre-order now.

Something To Talk About is a podcast by Stellar, hosted by editor-in-chief Sarrah Le Marquand.

    Olympia Valance has some news…

Late last year, Olympia Valance opened up about the difficulty she and her husband, former AFL player Thomas Bellchambers, encountered while trying to start a family. After a roller-coaster four years, which saw them experience multiple pregnancy losses and undergo IVF, Olympia decided to speak out because she wanted anyone else going through the same thing to feel less alone.

She was also getting to a point where she felt it might be time to close the door on trying to conceive. And then she took a pregnancy test…

Today, Olympia joins Something To Talk About host Sarrah Le Marquand to reveal her baby news, why she feels a little nervous sharing it – and what she’d say to anyone struggling with their own fertility journey.

This episode deals with pregnancy loss. If you or someone you know needs support, visit Miscarriage Australia

Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding on the one question we won't ask them

Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding are one of the country's most popular couples. So when they announced their engagement in May, there was a collective cheer from the Australian public, particularly since part of the business of being Andy Lee – a four-time Gold Logie nominee and half of a hugely successful double act with long-time co-host Hamish Blake – means a lot of people feel invested in his personal life. In their first interview since their engagement, Andy and Rebecca join host Sarrah Le Marquand to discuss wedding plans, the Logies dress code and how they really feel about the constant questioning about when they are going to "settle down".

Andy Lee is the host of The Hundred and co-host of the Hamish & Andy podcast. He is also nominated for a Gold Logie.

Rebecca Harding is the founder of razor and body care brand LUI

Poolside in Paris with Cate Campbell on gender parity, the race of the century - and why being a spectator is HARD

Cate Campbell competed as part of the Australian swimming team at four consecutive Olympics and has a haul of eight medals (four of them gold) to show for it. But this time around, she's at the Paris Games fulfilling a very different role.

On this episode of Something To Talk About, Cate joins host Sarrah Le Marquand poolside from Paris to talk about the bittersweet experience of shifting from athlete to commentator, and how her experience as an Olympic athlete gives her a unique appreciation for the hard work on display.

Cate lays out why she believes the gender parity on display at the 2024 Games will inspire a new generation of athletes – both men and women – and shares her very personal and unique perspective on that race between Mollie O’Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus.

She opens up about the bittersweet feelings she has about missing out on the competition this year, the inspiration she draws from Australia's female athletes – who are currently leading the country's medal tally – and her realisation that watching from the sidelines is a tough gig: “This spectating business is hard.”

Cate also discusses her plans for the future post-retirement, and why they're likely to involve the 2032 Olympics in her home state of Queensland.

Cate Campbell is part of the Nine Network’s Olympic commentary team. You can find more from Cate Campbell at @cate_campbell.
