The craft of distilling involves making cuts: the heads, the hearts, and the tails. You have the hearts in your glass, so we are going to bring you everything else. Each month, Heads + Tails serves up interviews, discussion, and news from the world of spirits that aims to broaden your knowledge of these amazing liquids. Have questions or comments? Email us at [email protected]. Heads + Tails is a production of The Brewing Network.
Most people in the spirits industry are passionate about their work - they have to be, right? Lila, from La Alazana distillery in Argentina, is different. She has the passion, but it's not about her work per say - it's about the totality of the craft of distilling. Everything, from the type of grain used to how they are farmed, from smoking her own malts to designing their stills - Lila lives and breathes this stuff. We were very fortunate to chat with her and taste some of the amazing spirit they are putting out.

Fresh off his two-week trip to Scotland, Warren decides to share some of the bounty he collected. You know ... for "education". Warren visited 24 distilleries in 13 days, so he has much to share with us with regard to not only differences in the scotches he tried, but also what cool stuff is going on that we don't even know about. Plus, a lot of the spirits we tried were distillery-only samples, making this show even more amazing!Â

Copperworks Distilling Co. is making a name for itself in the spirits world, by creating their award-winning spirits from actual craft beer recipes! When Jason Parker started in the fermentation game, it was way back in the late '80's ... on the beer side of things. As his passion grew, so did his love of spirits, and we were very excited to welcome both Jason and his distiller Greg on the show to talk about how they approach distilling, what sorts of projects they are currently working on, and how you manage growth in the spirits world.

Today's show was different than our others - it was our first show without a proper guest! However, we made the best of it by chatting with Erik (again) from ADI about all sorts of topics, plus we did our first round of spirits news. We also received our latest box from Shaker and Spoon, so Warren made us a nice cocktail with a locally-made Rye Whiskey. All in all it was a good time!
