With the goal of helping every body on the Brazilian jiu-jitsu path reduce their chance of injury, improve their strength and mobility to become more resilient.

    Psychology For Grappling: Mind over Matter

    Episode 327: Do you get Anxious about rolling and competing? Do find yourself constantly criticising yourself with negative self talk? This is actually not helping you just do the thing- get better at BJJ. Managing your self talk and your psychological approach to the pressures of BJJ is key to your long term success. Both JT & Joey have had their own battles with managing their minds and have had very different journeys taking different approaches to getting their heads straight. There is a definite time to expect high standards, analyse and critique what you are doing... but do not keep breaking things down and criticising when it is time to perform.
    Knowing when to think and when to just go is a skill that needs to be practiced and understood. If you are not learning different ways to keep a handle on your mind in a BJJ context then you are missing out. Everyone is different whether you are a hype beast or Zen champion you need a routine to be able learn and perform at your full potential. You gotta cut out the negative self talk and know how to get yourself right.

    How to Unf*ck Your Ankles for Better Grappling!

They then go deep on the exact steps you need to follow in order to rehab your stiff ankles and gradually build back strength and stability so you can confidence to grapple on your feet.     🔒 The BJJ Dilemma: When to Stick it out & When to Quit!

    Is it time to stop doing BJJ or is it time to pick up the pace? When you fall out of the habit of doing anything, studying, playing sport, creating art or practicing BJJ you start caring less. The intent you bring to your practice of BJJ starts to fall away if you are not placing a serious importance on what it means to you, without the regularity it's much easier to let it slip. If you spend more time around people who don't care about BJJ this attitude will rub off on you, the power of social osmosis does really affect the way we view the world. If you are questioning your dedication to the art, ask yourself are you in the Habit of practicing BJJ? If you aren't consistently training at least 3 x per week you are no longer in the habit which may put you on a downward spiral... and ultimately may result in your life taking a different path- which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

    What Body Type Is Best For BJJ?

    Episode 325: Do you have long legs, love closed guard and triangle chokes? Maybe you have shorter limbs and play using more Half Guard or X-Guard? Body type and limb length was never discussed in the earlier days of BJJ but it does have a big impact on the way you play the Jiu-Jitsu game. In MMA the tale of the Tape, height, weight and reach - Arm span are all factors that can give you an advantage. This holds true for BJJ but no one is talking about it. You might be playing a type of BJJ game that may not suit your body's proportions which may lead to unnecessary injury.
    The dynamic nature of Jiu-Jitsu means we can all play the game no matter what shape or size we are but could you be more effective using a better tool for the job. This discussion questions whether or not just following your coaches advice because it worked for them is the right way to go. You need to take a closer look at your own body and find what works best for you.

    Are BJJ Uniforms A Scam?

    Episode 322: Does your school have a strict uniform policy? Maybe your coach doesn't care what brand you wear. Uniform is a solid part of the BJJ Gym business but also helps bond the team together. But if you can't choose where you buy your Gi and rash guards is that fair or just another hidden scam within Jiu-Jitsu culture? There are arguments on both sides for and against uniform policies.
    A big team showing up to a competition unified and all wearing the same brand and colours looks professional and can really help give you a sense of belonging- being part of something. But being told you can only wear and have to purchase over priced team merch might be a deal breaker.
