    Today on the podcast I sync up with Betsy Hughes, Co-Owner of Track Shack, the Orlando based running retailer and running event company responsible for spearheading the bid and bringing the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials to Orlando!  Betsy has been in the running retail and event business and an avid runner for over four decades. Track Shack running events include the iconic Walt Disney World Marathon and runDisney events, Orlando Half Marathon, and longest running women’s events, Lady Track Shack 5K.

    Betsy takes me back to where it all began-her passion for running, her foray into retail and running event production, course measuring, and how she and her husband, Jon, grew this family owned retail shop into a blossoming running brand. Betsy shares how her son Chris came on board in the retail business after college and how they thrived during the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. We chat about how running culture and shoes have evolved over the decades, some of her go-to’s, what events she’s running these days and the many Track Shack Training Programs and Track Shack Foundation.

    Today on The Podcast I am syncing up with Corey Berger, Director of Functional Fitness at TYR , the family owned heritage brand that got its roots in swim 40 years ago, in Huntington Beach California. Founded by by Joseph DiLorenzo, and Olympic Bronze Medalist Swimmer, Steve Furniss in 1985,  TYR, the name a reference to the Norse god Týr, has grown and evolved over the decades into multiple athletic categories. During the pandemic TYR expanded into crossfit footwear and as of this month, has two phenomenal new running shoes- The Valkyrie Carbon and Valkyroe Speedworks. I have been wearing their swimsuits and goggles for over a decade and was excited to connect with Corey and learn all about their crossfit, strength training, and new running shoes. We chat about his role TYR, how and when he connected with the brand, his personal athletic endeavors, and where the two intersect.

Today we are talking about the Boston Marathon, what it means to him, when he decided to race, and his training leading into it. We chat about nutrition, fueling and his go-to products and stack for long runs, and his thoughts on carb loading. We talk about the many running shoes Matt has been trying thanks to his partnership with Zappos, and which ones he really likes, and which ones he MAY race in for Boston. I also get the inside scoop at which triathlons and cycling events he has thus far on the cal for 2024… We do a deep dive into gear and I may out geek Matt on the cycling stuff but you decide. He dials me into his super cool bike and his fave apparel! Of course, I get some training advice- I def asked his thoughts on strategy and training for back to back marathons and he offers me a glimmer of hope in my goals to race NYC Marathon this fall in Sub 4 hours.
