His little sister, Sally Grace, arrived in July of 2014.  Rachel and Ryan consider both of their babies to be miracles, as Noah is adopted and Sally was conceived through IVF.  When Rachel is not caring for the littles or picking up the house for the 100th time, she edits for Power of Moms and blogs about motherhood, infertility, adoption, eating disorders, her ridiculously cute children, and the ups and downs of daily life.  Nothing gives her more satisfaction than capturing in words the deepest feelings of her heart.

When children's rooms are set up their way, they may not look Pinterest-worthy!

When children’s rooms are set up their way, they may not look Pinterest-worthy!

We come into motherhood with ideals about how things are going to go – then we realize that some of those ideals just aren’t realistic or aren’t all that important.

What have you realized isn’t as important as it seemed to be at first?  Have you let go of aspects of how your house and kids should look, what your kids should eat, that sort of thing?

These questions received lots of interesting and helpful responses from our Facebook community – and April and Saren add their own thoughts in this week’s Radio Show. (As you listen, you’ll gain great perspective and be glad to know you’re not the only one who has worried about silly things!)

More about Chantelle (and the podcast)

Chantelle is one of the 12 main authors of Deliberate Motherhood and is a popular motivational speaker.  (You can learn more about her work teaching children by visiting www.chantelleadams.com.)

A recovering perfectionist and fear addict, she’s now become a Courage Coach and Freedom Creator, and in this podcast she digs deep into the power that comes from facing your fears and ways we can start to take action right now to live our most courageous lives.

Chantelle tells of the turning point in her life where she realized that she was alive, but not really living, and how she set out on her own personal courage revolution which has included her most recent adventure of skydiving where she fell 10,000 feet to raise $10,000 to build a school in Nicaragua. You can read her list of crazy fears and find out more about The Courage to Fly Project at www.couragetoflyproject.com.

In this podcast we also talk about how our children need to be courageous (now more than ever) and how they need their moms to be brave and show them the way to really accept themselves, make choices based on what they know is right, and stand up for others. They also need to have courage to step out of their comfort zones and go for their big dreams while making a difference in the world in their own way. This podcast will help each of us commit to courageous parenting and set us on that path to living our “big, brave lives.”

  • Healthy Eating (and No More “Diets”) – Radio Episode 24
I (April) love to purchase produce when it's on sale and fill our counters. And my daughter Grace likes to decorate it.

April loves to purchase produce on sale and keep it handy. And her daughter Grace likes to decorate it.

We received a question from a mom who was wondering what healthy eating can and should be for a mom. She’s seen the never-ending diets that are flaunted on magazine covers at all the check-out stands. She’s heard about all the latest “superfoods.” But she was wanted to know if there’s a way to simply eat healthfully all the time rather than dieting – and if so, how that could work.

Since healthy eating for themselves and their families is something April and Saren think about and talk about a lot, they decided to devote this week’s radio show to this important and often tricky topic. In this 35-minute show, they share:

    • some simple the food “rules” they’ve made for themselves
    • tips for eating healthily while on the run as moms
    • ideas for helping ourselves and our kids develop a real appetite for healthy foods
    • thoughts on how we can develop a more positive and realistic attitude towards food and towards our bodies
