The Accused: The Case of Alice Sebold & Anthony Broadwater

In this episode, we dive into the harrowing true story behind author Alice Sebold’s 1981 rape and the decades-later revelation of a devastating miscarriage of justice. Sebold, best known for her memoir Lucky and the novel The Lovely Bones, identified Anthony Broadwater as her attacker, leading to his conviction in 1982. However, Broadwater always maintained his innocence.

This episode examines the long-term impact on both Sebold and Broadwater, raising critical questions about memory, systemic racism, and the justice system’s failures — and what it means to confront truth years after a crime.

The excellent ITV drama Mark mentions in this episode, Undeniable, is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The series can also be purchased on Apple TV.

The Tragic Killing of Emily Jones

This week we head north, to Bolton, as we cover one of the most heart-breaking cases in recent history.

Emily Jones was a bright, happy, much-loved child. She was innocently enjoying the sunshine with her father when her life was stolen in a moment so brutal, so sudden, and so senseless, that it shook the entire nation to its very core.

But what followed only deepened the outrage. The woman responsible for the attack was a mentally ill foreign national with a long history of violent behaviour and disturbing psychiatric issues. She was known to adult care services, known to the police, known to the entire system. And yet, somehow, she was walking free that day.

This wasn’t just a case of a life taken too soon. It was a case that raised urgent questions — about mental health oversight, immigration, and how we protect the most vulnerable among us. Questions that, for many, still haven’t been answered.

Reverend Paul Flowers: The Crystal Methodist

In our season 13 premier we take a look at the life and crimes of 74-year-old debauched deviant Paul Flowers.

Flowers first came to the public's attention in 2013 when he was blamed for the near-collapse of the Co-operative Bank - he was the bank's chairman from 2010 to 2013. Some bad decisions were made during his tenure and it's not hard to see why - Flowers was often turning up to work following all-night cocaine and ketamine benders. He was in no fit state to be running a bank and when a sex worker filmed him in the act, it was the beginning of a spectacular downfall that would see his personal and professional lives implode in the most public way possible.

The Lyon Sisters: Vanished Without A Trace - Part 1 (Part 2 also out now)

Fifty years ago this week, sisters Katherine and Sheila Lyon, aged 10 and 12 respectively, vanished into thin air. What started out as a fun day at the mall, soon turned into every parent's worst nightmare when the girls failed to arrive home for their 4pm curfew.

The tight-knit community of the girls' hometown of Kensington, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C., rallied together in a desperate bid to search for the girls. But as nightfall came, there was still no sign of them. And as the days that followed turned into weeks, and then months, questions were being asked within this community - just who was responsible for the abduction and probable murder of these two little angels...? Join us as we delve into this desperately sad case...

Rage: The Brutal Murder of Jillian Howell

This week we head to Brighton, and to the mid 2010's, as we take a look at the murder of 46-year-old payroll manager and adored friend and family member, Jillian Howell.

When Jillian took over as the head of the University of Brighton's payroll department in 2015, she was intent on change. The department needed overhauling and she was just the woman to do it.

David Browning, a then 49-year-old payroll administrator in the department, immediately took a disliking to his new boss. In time however, the pair became close, with Jillian supporting David following the sudden death of his father in 2016. But when David misconstrued Jillian's support for something more, a chain of events was set in motion that would end in tragedy.
