On Tuesday 11th August 1936, at roughly noon, in the basement flat of 7 Roseford Gardens in Shepherd’s Bush, 66-year-old widow Elizabeth Fortescue was smothered to death, as her attacker ransacked her flat. On Sunday 31st July 1949, just before midnight, Michael Martin unleashed a violent attack on a defenseless 53-year-old prostitute known locally as ‘Mona’.
