    114. Will the stock market ever completely crash? Is investing worth the risk?

In this episode, we dive into the question: Can a steady 5.5% savings rate beat the uncertainty of chasing 7% in shares? With Owen Rask, we debate the risk-reward trade-off and the purpose of investing when returns aren’t guaranteed. Is it worth taking the plunge, or should we play it safe?

We explore fears of total market collapse and the impact of slowing population growth, with lessons from Japan’s stagnation. Can markets keep growing, or are we heading for long-term flat returns? How can investors stay calm during volatility?

Finally, we unpack myths about beating the market and the role of diversification. Does it safeguard portfolios or simply cap returns? With big questions about indefinite growth, we challenge assumptions and explore how to navigate the future.

    109. The importance of buying assets, and money EQ/IQ

At the Get Rich Slow Club, we often talk about investing and financial literacy in aspirational terms. We showcase people who have retired early after investing in shares, or built their way towards property empires. However, there’s another, deeper reality at play: sometimes, investing can make the difference between stability and disaster.

Perhaps no-one better exemplifies this than Marion Mays – money EQ and IQ coach, and founder of Money Strong. Following the birth of her first child, Marion contended with a string of hurdles. These spanned from her transition to becoming a sole parent, to health and developmental issues which required her to be a full-time carer for her son for seven years.

Despite these challenges, Marion managed to stay afloat thanks to the financial buffers she had built for herself. Now, Marion is committed to ensuring other historically marginalised Australians have the financial tools they need to thrive.

Think of this episode as your financial disaster preparedness kit!
