Selling Your Own Course vs. Selling Other People’s Stuff (and a personal epiphany I had this week)

    Don’t downplay the good stuff!

I realized something this past week. I’ve been doing you a disservice.

In my attempt to not fall into the “guru” pile of being another one of those annoying people online yapping about how great having an online course business is - I often completely downplay how freaking great having an online course business is compared to other options 😁

I never want to minimize the fact that building any type of business takes time and hard work - and that includes creating + selling online courses and digital products.

But I realize I sometimes go so far the other way - that I forget to share that, yes, although 10% of it is hard and challenging, the other 90% of it is WOW, AMAZING, “I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS MY LIFE” GOOD.

Selling your own products to your own audience is honestly SO much more empowering than selling other people’s stuff (whether that be through affiliates, brand deals, ads, or some other options I discuss in the episode)

It can be easy to take something you’ve been doing a long time for granted and look at other people/models and think they have it all figured out…or that the grass is greener… but I’ve learned a powerful lesson about how awesome selling your own offers to your own audience is.

➡️ Read the full blog post here

    In this episode:

    • My a-ha moment about why I tend to downplay all the good stuff about running a course business

    • Some of the highlights from the last year I didn’t share because I didn’t want to brag or be annoying

    • Reflecting on where you might be downplaying your success or forgetting how amazing your work is

    • From thinking the grass might be greener monetizing with sponsors, ads, brand deals or affiliates to realizing that nothing really compares to creating, selling and owning your own products and your own audience

    • Why the message I’ve been sharing since 2015 is even *more* relevant in 2024 with all the wild stuff going on on social media

    • Developing the core skills that will serve you for life, no matter what you sell online or what niche you are in

Reverse Engineer Your Ideal Weekly Schedule (Here’s Mine)

Reverse Engineer Your Ideal Weekly Schedule (Here’s Mine)

Designing your ideal work schedule starts with imagining how you want to spend your time outside of work.

When I am entering a new season that requires a new schedule, I take the time to think about how I want my day to day to feel.

Then I can reverse engineer what my ideal work days look like, bringing together my desires and spaciousness of my ideal day with the work that has to get done.

Balance work and life as a creator-founder with a schedule that helps you focus, while prioritizing personal activities and life goals. See my weekly schedule as an example and learn how to reverse engineer your own!

➡️ Read the full blog post here

    In this episode:

    • Create an “ideal schedule” that doesn’t stress you out or require you to be perfect

    • Why we put our lifestyle goals and desires (fun stuff) on the calendar first

    • How to take inventory of all your tasks and projects before creating your ideal schedule

    • Puzzling together the personal items and business tasks into your ideal schedule

    • What my day to day looks like in this season of my business

How to take long breaks during the delivery of your program

In this episode, I’m sharing an actual episode from my Q&A Private Podcast, which is usually exclusively for my clients!

At the time of publishing this, my Q&A Private Podcast has over 70 episodes on it (!!) and I add more all the time. My clients can submit questions and topics, I curate which ones I answer for the private podcast, and I publish them as individual mini-episodes (1 answer/topic per episode) so it’s super searchable, digestible and easy to listen to! People absolutely love it, and I know you will too.

If you’d like to access the Q&A private podcast and all the other courses, resources, and support in Monetize, you can enroll today here

This episode is one of many of our Q&A private podcast episodes - and today’s is all about how you can take longer, planned breaks (like 2-6 weeks) in your business when you are running an ongoing program.

The question submitted from a client was, “How can I take planned longer breaks during the delivery of my program?”. You’ll hear my answer in this episode!

I love this topic because I truly think all business owners should be planning for rest and time off in their schedules from the beginning - and baking this into your delivery, marketing, and strategy from day 1 is going to make it so much easier.

This episode is all about how you communicate those breaks and time off to your clients in a way that serves and supports them as much as it does you!

I invite you to join my free Creator Party community so that you can keep the conversation going. We do Podcast Chats where I answer questions about each episode, and we have a deeper discussion on the themes we explore on the podcast.

    In this episode:

    • How to plan to take breaks during your program delivery from the beginning

    • The messaging and positioning of taking rest time while delivering a long-term program

    • How to communicate your planned breaks to potential clients and current clients

    • How mindset plays a role in taking time off throughout the year while you have a rolling program

    • Examples of how I communicate expectations around my Q&A private podcast (just for my clients)

If you’d like to access the Q&A private podcast and all the other courses, resources, and support in Monetize, you can enroll today here
