A Podcast of Flying Saucer History and Lore
We’re finishing our exploration of the book UFO Contact from Andromeda by getting into the nuts and bolts (or not) of Lya’s message to the semi-mysterious Professor R.N. Hernandez! As a reminder, this book and its message seems to have had a bit of a confusing journey from experiencer to reader so for a rundown of that, be sure to check out part 1 of the story in the archives.
You can find UFO Contact from Andromeda at Amazon as an ebook or you can buy a horrifically expensive used hardcover. Similarly the updated translation—Prophecies of an Extraterrestrial Woman—is on Amazon as an ebook, hardcover, or paperback.

It’s a Contact tale from Mexico, filtered through the typewriter of American UFO figure Wendelle Stevens. This is one of those contact stories that seems to have gotten very little attention in the broader UFO world so it’s a delight to be able to share it with you!
In this first part, we’ll take a look at where the story came from and meet Professor R.N. Hernandez: a respected scientist who had his worldview expanded by a beautiful, alien woman named Lya.

In this episode, we’re finishing our look at Volume 3, Issue 1 of UFO Magazine. We’re past the news and editorials and into some meatier stuff including an interview with Whitley Strieber, an article by Michael Grosso on his “Paraterrestrial Hypothesis,” want ads, and some poetry.

In this episode, we’re starting our look at Volume 3, Issue 1 of UFO Magazine. This is an issue jam packed full of great UFO stories and history, including a key piece of the UFO Conspiracy narrative of the late 80s, the dawn of the Mr. Ed photos, and a surprising rabbit hole that led me to a “sonic xenolinguistics performance art group” (including this great number!)

It’s a rare Saucer Life interview! In this episode, we talk to author Gabriel Mckee about his new biography of Gray Barker: The Saucerian: UFOs, Men in Black, and the Unbelievable Life of Gray Barker. It comes out on April 22, 2025 and—having read an advance copy—I can say it is an astounding and thoroughly researched work.

As we continue our look at Allen Michael's One World Family Commune UFO group from the 1960s, we talk about a woman named Del Rainer, who joined the commune in 1967 at the age of 40 and wrote about her experiences decades later.

We are beginning a multi-part journey that is going to take us to the end of the year. Contactees, UFOs, the counterculture of the 60s, communes, weird space music, a new messiah for a new age… it’s wild. We begin, in this episode, with Allen Noonan, a sign painter from California who has an enlightening experience and begins building a community around it.

It’s the 7 ( and 1/12) anniversary of The Saucer Life! For the occasion, and in response to some messages I’ve received, I’m going to be revisiting my list of top ten important UFO books from four years ago. There are some changes to the list which will doubtless generate controversy (this may be an exaggeration). After listening, you can find the list and links to purchase (which benefit the show) here!

Art Gatti’s 1978 book UFO Encounters of the Fourth Kind? is a tour de force of supposed alien-human sexual encounters. Going all the way back to the dawn of time, Gatti makes the case for long-term alien sexual interference with humanity. I’d like to say he does it with tact and class but that would be a lie. Listen along as we cover the book, detail some of his very 1970s turns-of-phrase, and talk about the very interesting story of Cynthia Applegate, since Gatti doesn’t spend enough time on it!

It's another installment in our Zine Scene series! This time, we're looking at the February, 1969 issue of Flying Saucers Magazine. This was a long-running publication from the prolific Ray Palmer, who co-founded Fate Magazine and brought us the dubious glory of the Richard Shaver hollow Earth tales.
This issue is rife with interesting ads, a condemnation of the Allende Letters, and more!
