  • Episode 145: Carolina Jewett’s on Why She's for Running for Charleston School Board

    On today’s episode Sarah sits down with CCSD Board Candidate Carolina Jewett.  They discuss the many problems with our school board’s becoming political and she shares what she would do differently, if elected. Carolina has a background in corporate strategic and financial management, she is well-equipped to support the CCSD Board in ensuring financial accountability. CCSD’s 86 schools serve nearly 50,000 students, with more than 40 percent living in poverty, and many requiring special education or social and emotional support. Carolina believes the Board has taken a positive step by adjusting funds to meet the needs of each school, and as a Board member, she would support this approach and remain vigilant in ensuring that all funds dedicated to public schools are spent wisely, and that our schools remain truly public.

  • Episode 144: How to Build a Team with Legendary Coach Lou Spanos

    If you’ve been to The Works, you may have seen a tall, handsome, sweaty dude in the corner cheering the whole class on. That man just happens to be legendary Coach Lou Spanos. He is a defensive analyst for the University of Mississippi, a position he has held since 2023. He was the interim head football coach for the University of Connecticut in 2021. He was a defensive quality control and assistant linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1995 to 2009, the linebackers coach for the Washington Redskins from 2010 to 2011, and the defensive coordinator for the UCLA from 2012 to 2013. Throughout his career, Spanos has been to the Super Bowl three times, winning two of them with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006 and 2009, and had been to the College National Championship once; in 2019 with Alabama. Today he sits down with Sarah and Aaron Segal to discuss his incredible career and the lessons he’s learned along the way. Even if you’re not a Sports Fan, Lou’s energy is contagious and this podcast has plenty of takeaways to make you better in business and in life.

After they were given the devastating news that their unborn son would not be able to live without around the clock high level medical assistance they made the extremely difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy. However, due to the South Carolina Abortion Ban she had to travel to Washington D.C. to receive this care. In this episode she details the unthinkably heartbreaking story of this trip and everything that led up to it and urges any woman who is in a similar situation to reach out for help and know that they aren’t alone.
