Travel N Sh*t is a podcast highlighting the experiences of a young(ish) black woman from New York City traveling the world solo. The “how I did it” conversation is important but the "how I’ve grown and what I’ve learned" conversation is where I thrive. I have seen plenty of people traveling the world before, but not heard anyone who looked or sounded like me discussing why travel is so life changing. Travel N Sh*t satisfies that need by holding space for me and my guests to inform and inspire other people of color to get out and grow through travel.
We are currently doing a Dexter and Will & Grace rewatch, and it got me to thinking, “where do I stand on travel revisits?” There is the obvious repeat destination argument, but what about revisiting my opinions on certain types of travel? Revisiting childhood vacation spots? There are multiple things that come up when rewatching a show 8 used to love. This week I turn that lens on my travels.
Episodes mentioned:
Slowing Down On Vacation and In Life - Ep 270
What Can You Learn From International Reality Shows? -Ep 289
My “Drink Masters” Experiences Around The World -Ep 213
Hotel Honesty with Trey Motley - Ep 146

With the state of the country after this most recent election, navigating white spaces throughout our travels is front of mind more than ever. I think by now most of us understand the US for what it is, but there's nothing like updated statistics as a reminder that Black Americans have quite the unique experience in the country we call home. This week I'm joined by Anthony and Marlie Love to discuss how they use their platform Traveling While Black (CHECK THEM OUT ON FOX SOUL!!) to highlight Black history (or the lack there of) and their current experiences as Black travelers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They use practical metrics such as the number of Black people seen, visibility of signs of inclusion, quality of the drive, and overall comfortability for Black people in a destination to inform viewers of what they can expect should they venture to visit. Tune in.
