    # 180 Why Maintenance Is More Important (and Harder) Than You Think

Maintenance doesn't "feel" like a goal but it's a vital one to learn nonetheless. A calorie deficit won't fix your bad patterns. It will magnify them further. This episode explores two main reasons why people find it so hard to thrive. Maintenance is life. It's where we should spend most of our lives. If you haven't experienced it, then this episode is for you.

    # 177 Simple Steps to Improve Your Relationship With Food

Paul discusses a question he received on Ester weekend - "How do I not press the f**k it button this Easter?"

Waiting until Easter Sunday to ask this is like asking how to learn to swim today. You can receive cliches that help you stay afloat - mindful eating, don't restrict - but the fear of drowning remains. The risk is asking this same question every occasion for the rest of your life.

This episode is about healing your relationship with food and some ideas on how to do it.

    # 176 The Harder You Diet, the Worse It Gets – The Lengths You Go to Self-sabotage

Patterns of behaviour that once spared us embarrassment, shame or judgment might now be the source of our pain as adults.

Secret eating once got us through a tough period and now it's the only way we cope.

Intense restrcition offered us control and now it's the reason we overeat.

We can ask ourselves "In what circumstance did this peculiar behaviour once make sense?"

Then, gently, we can begin to coax ourselves towards better solutions here and now.

    # 175 One of My Ingenious Strategies for Long-term Success (If I Say So Myself)

Most people rely on inner conflict to make eating choices. We want to shift organically into calm, controlled, self-assured decisions.

So, let's talk about the audit. A behavioural audit. A period where the focus isn't as much on strict change as it is observation.

What has worked? What hasn't? Who do you want to be on the journey? What is and isn't worth it? How do you develop confidence, self-awareness and control around eating?

    # 174 Breaking the Overeat-Restrict Cycle – 4 Things You Need to Know

These are four important ideas that so often go overlooked.

    1. It is normal to stop eating your favourite foods whilst still wanting more.
    2. When people say they're addicted to sugar, it is usually because certain foods have become their only "go-to" when stressed or sad.
    3. You cannot fix your relationship with food with more food rules
    4. There is only one effective strategy after overeating, and it's unspectacular: get back to eating normally.

    # 173 Unpopular Opinions, Diet Culture, Enjoying Dieting and Other Walk-Thoughts

There is a science to many eating behaviours, but there is also an art - and like art, it is subjective to each of us. Here are a few thoughts from my morning walk worth contemplating.

    # 172 "What Do I Want From THIS Experience?"

A simple question - what do I want to get from this experience?

Whether I'm eating for pleasure or nourishment, have overeaten or have not eaten at all, what growth, lessons, wisdom and perspective do I want to extract from this moment?

    # 171 How I Stopped Binge Eating

In this episode, Paul goes through his history of binge eating - how it started, how he broke it and how he stayed out of it. Binge eating was, in part, because of an overvaluation of body shape which ironically made things worse and worse.

Paul stopped dieting for a prolonged period, stopped focusing on being lean, practised unconditional permission to eat until it felt "normal", and then dieted again years later with the principles he now teaches his clients, getting some of the best results in the industry.

This episode might be the nudge you need to seek the appropriate help from a qualified professional.
