We were an hour late to our meeting with Brendan and he still welcomed us in with more respect than we would deserve in normal circumstances. One of the pioneers of the Australian craft beer revolution, 3 Ravens has been knocking out quality craft beer since 2003. Lately they have been killing it with their sour series and dominating the juice wars. Now with a new CAW range to tie everything together, they have a solution for every situation. It's a Good Beer Week Extravaganza! We talk about some of our favourite events and some of the GABS beers that are getting us excited. We also announce the winner to our latest competition! The winner of the epic Double Dutch Rudder and $120 beer tab prize pack. Good Beer Week has grown from an idea to a festival made up of more than 300 innovative events that attracts seventy five thousand attendees. Run by a not-for-profit association it is Australia's premiere beer event that attracts global visitors and vendors alike. The origin of Holgate Brewhouse dates back to 1999 after Paul and his wife had been on holiday in the U.S. and felt inspired to join the industry due to the small and independent nature of craft breweries that were in business for the love of their product. This sentiment resinated with Paul who had a love of baking, making jams and ginger beer and was intrigued by the nature of first principles production, before the advent of modern production technology. Their brewery took shape in their back yard, in Woodend, where they started selling beer while working and raising a family. Thankfully the couple invested heavily in tourism and hospitality when they took over a historic hotel and transformed it into Holgate’s! We got the chance to sit down with Paul and discuss government grants, independence and which is the best drunk food. I’ll give you a hint, it’s definitely not chicken dim sims.

Today we were lucky enough to sit down with the charmingly enigmatic Mazen Hajjar of Hawkers Beer. We talk about tap contracts, limited releases and quality control. Mazen's career has been varied; war photographer, airline CEO and brewer. Now the owner of the 3rd* largest brewery in Australia, Mazen is forging his own path and putting it all out there.
