Pain and your Brain – Jim Prussack #344

A potential way back to playing with less pain

On today’s Mind Caddie we go in a slightly different direction but nevertheless one that I am sure will apply to so many people.

    PAIN!!

A lot of us are playing golf in some form of pain or other

It may be acute pain or chronic pain

Chronic pain is at epidemic proportions

If you have had pain for over 6 months it is now a chronic issue

And as todays guest ‘The Pain PT’ Jim Prussack explains it is not as simple and as straightforward as we may believe.

All pain is generated by the brain which doesn’t mean that the ‘pain is in your head’

It is real and it hurts

But as Jim wonderfully explains when you understand the role of the brain in pain you can go in a different direction.

Much pain is a result of the brains PERCEPTION

    Feeling of threat

When we reduce the threat we reduce the pain reaction

So much of this ties in with what we have explored on the Mind Caddie about the perception of threat and performance

You will find this interview fascinating and it may just give you some hope of  different way to approach your pain

How to Unf__k your Golf Swing – Cameron Strachan

Today on the podcast we are joined by author and coach Cameron Strachan who has written the provocatively titled book ‘How to Unf__k your Golf Swing’

He has made it his life’s work to demystify the golf swing and get players away from too much technical thinking

It may not be for everyone but for many it will be a refreshing departure from the barrage of technical positions and theory

How can we make learning the golf swing much simpler? This question has driven Cameron in his quest for years

How can we give golfers the smallest amount of information that has the biggest effect?

    • The technical overload we are all suffering from
    • Why the default is to seek out more information
    • We are designed to use tools skilfully yet we often ignore that fact
    • The biomechanical research on efficient movement
    • What if the game was just like making an underarm throw?
    • Would you feel capable of doing that?
    • How much would that simplify things?
    • Make a throwing motion with the club
    • How simplification increases feel

As we discussed Cameron firmly believes that the game of golf COULD be as simple as throwing a ball

If the game becomes more simple then you are free to focus on other things like the golf course and actually enjoying your experience

The power of a defined MISSION Today on the Mind Caddie we have a very special guest in Dr. John Demartini. He is world-renowned human behavior expert. His work has been described by students as "the most comprehensive body of work" - "an extensive library of wisdom."

He is an internationally published author, a global educator and the founder of the Demartini Method, a revolutionary tool in modern psychology. His teachings are the synthesis of knowledge and wisdom from the greatest minds through history.

We had a wonderful conversation with so many valuable insights to apply to your game of golf but perhaps more importantly your game of life.

We discussed: What are the main barriers to releasing your TRUE capability and how comparing yourself to others can be so detrimental. How the law of ‘contrast’ minimises your Mastery Why finding your own sense of personal mission will allow you to focus so much more effectively on what you are doing TODAY Mastering YOUR skills as you become absorbed in exploring what you are truly capable of becoming Don’t be second at being somebody else be FIRST at being YOU How infatuation with OUTCOME takes you away from Mastery. The bigger the cause the bigger the outcome. How your life demonstrates your hierarchy of values What is it that energises you everyday? Are your actions in line with your highest values?
