The Krishna Das Pilgrim Heart Hour features Krishna Das’ no-nonsense take on everyday struggles for finding balance on the spiritual path. Through the honesty, humility and humor of his own personal experiences, he points to the possibility of navigating life’s trials with a true inner yearning for truth. His own practice of kirtan or chant is the well stone of his ability to share from his spiritual heart. As KD says, “Love is a disease - we catch it from those who have it.”
Diving into principles of karma, Krishna Das describes how we can serve all beings and follow our own path, shares stories about his guru, Maharaj-ji, and much more.

About Krishna Das:
Layering traditional Hindu kirtan with instantly accessible melodies and modern instrumentation, Grammy nominee, Krishna Das has been called yoga’s “rock star.” With a remarkably soulful voice that touches the deepest chord in even the most casual listener, Krishna Das – known to friends, family, and fans as simply KD – has taken the call-and-response chanting out of yoga centers and into concert halls, becoming a worldwide icon and the best-selling chant artist of all time. His album ‘Live Ananda’ (released January 2012) was nominated for a Grammy in the Best New Age album category.
KD spent the late ’60s traveling across the country as a student of Ram Dass, and in August 1970, he finally made the journey to India, which led him to Ram Dass’ own beloved guru, Neem Karoli Baba, known to most as Maharaj-ji.
Krishna Das now travels the world sharing his kirtan practice and wonderful stories of his life, of Maharaji-ji, of his life on the Path and discusses bringing chanting into our lives through retreats and workshops. To date, KD has released 15 well-received albums, most recently Trust in the Heart released in October 2017.

“The experience of all enlightened beings is all the same but the manifestation can be very different. Some sit up in a cave and nobody ever sees them and they do all their work silently, invisibly, from wherever they are. Others are more visible.” – Krishna Das

In this episode, Krishna Das describes:
“Anything you can think of or conceptualize with your mind can’t be God, because God is beyond that. I don’t know what I believe; I believe in love. I believe that Maharaj-ji is the whole universe and Maharaj-ji is that love. The love is where I want to be. I don’t need to know anything more than that.” – Krishna Das

“Removing the energy out of the traumatic experiences and experiences that formed us is a big job. It’s a really big thing. Don’t think of it as a waste of time. It’s our spiritual work. We’re cleaning our hearts of anger, betrayal, hurt, damage, grief, and shame, all the stuff that we’ve learned and absorbed as children in our families and in life.” – Krishna Das

“One has to deal with reality. The problem is that we live in such fantasy worlds and such dream worlds. So much of our daily life is occupied with getting stuff, holding onto stuff, taking care of stuff, throwing stuff away, getting more stuff. We’re so busy that we don’t get a chance just to be here.” – Krishna Das

This episode of Pilgrim Heart features chants and wisdom from Krishna Das on:
“Maharaj-ji said, he would point to us, he said ‘all one’. All paths lead to the same goal, the same place. That’s what I believe. So I feel completely at ease repeating any of the names of God. I am an all-inclusive repeater. It doesn’t matter to me; I like Hanuman, but I feel very close to Jesus also. For me, it’s not a problem because I believe they are all the names of that One.” – Krishna Das

This time on Pilgrim Heart, Krishna Das divulges:
“There is nothing wrong with love. The spiritual path is nothing but love. Relationships can really show you where your work has to be done and what work you have to do. Because you will see that they’ll be times when that beautiful romantic relationship looks like and feels like shit and torture. I guarantee it. Sooner or later. It may not last, but you’re going to go through everything in the relationship if you are really in relationship and you’re being honest with yourself and the other person. Relationships are wonderful opportunities to do a lot of work on ourselves.” – Krishna Das

“Look at yourself, and try to figure out why you can’t do what you want to do. What’s holding you back? You have to solve that problem, you have to deal with those issues. Maybe it’s self-loathing, maybe it’s self doubt, maybe it’s all kinds of things, programs that are running that we’re not aware of. That’s why the repetition of the name is such a good practice.“ – Krishna Das

“When we sing it out loud, it helps us pay attention. It’s harder to pay attention only mentally because thought is very wispy, it blows around really quickly. But, when you’re singing out loud, and breathing and making noise, and hearing it with your ears, all that helps you pay attention.” – Krishna Das
