UNspoiled! Daredevil

Natasha and Maggie discuss the Daredevil series by Netflix, going right into the second season episode by episode! Maggie has seen all of it (and read the comics), Natasha has seen none!

I'm really happy with this season, you guys.
Like look, was this perfect? No. I'm not a huge fan of Matt deciding that prison will EVER work for Fisk, and I'm really kinda wishing he'd just let Bullseye finish off the job. But it's totally in Matt's character to do this because he's kind of hopeless, so I'm just going to let it slide.

There was so much to like about these two episodes. I mean, who knew that Ray Nadeem was going to wind up being so important and that he'd think of an ingenious way to handle things from beyond the grave? And I am pleasantly surprised at how involved Vanessa has gotten, because that sets her up to be in charge of things while Fisk is away (assuming that she's not thrown in prison too, which looks pretty likely, actually).

I'm really hoping that they don't kill this show like the did Ironfist and Luke Cage, but I have a feeling it's safe for now.

Thanks to all of you for following along with us for another season, and I will see you when I see you!

I'm feeling good about the decision Maggie made regarding watching the last four episodes in two pairs. There's definitely too much happening to fit all 4 into one episode, and even just talking about two episodes was enough to fill a whole hour and change of the podcast. It's a marked difference from how things ran for the first three episodes!

Karen's story is way different than I expected, as I'm sure many of you heard when I theorized that she came from money last episode. She's someone that has managed to rise far above what she comes from, and yet the tragedy of her history is littered with bad decisions and desperation. I wasn't ready for how serious this shit gets.

On another note, the fight in the church goes really badly wrong and now Karen has other blood on her hands (although, she literally can't go anywhere without risking everyone around her because of that target on her back, so she's excused in my eyes). Dex, meanwhile, is starting to crack under the pressure and it's quite a blow to his cred with Fisk that she manages to get away alive.

Thanks a million to all of you for listening, and I will see you again soon with the finale episode!

    Darevdevil, Season 3- Episodes 7, 8, & 9
Sooooo, funny story...I definitely thought I had already edited and posted this episode. When I went and checked the feed and realized it wasn't there, I was mystified. I even had a list to check off when I finished editing and posting an episode, and I had checked it off on the list! I don't know how I managed to mess up so bad. My apologies for the delay.
This season has been so good, and I'm going to give the show the benefit of the doubt here and not be TOO mad that they're going down the "parent-I-thought-was-dead-is-actually-still-alive" road. For one, this is in the original comics. For two, the writers aren't hinging their entire plot on this development. So, okay FINE.
There's a lot more going on in this trio of episodes, and I will let the podcast speak for itself. Thanks so much for listening, and again I'm sorry for the delay!

Alrighty folks, I'm just going to say it: this season is really good so far and it better not fucking let me down because I'm super into it. My hopes are officially up. Don't ruin things again, Marvel.
I'm really here for the whole Evil Daredevil thing, like I know I said last episode how I don't like the hero having to fight an evil version of himself but...this just isn't that. Sure, Bullseye is wearing the suit and he's pretending to be Daredevil, but his skill set is totally different and the whole way that this goes down is also a departure from that tired trope. Bullseye isn't fashioning himself after Daredevil due to some lust for power or jealousy; he's just using the channel that he's presented as an outlet for abilities and urges he already has.
I just can't wait to see what happens from here because I really can't imagine. Karen is going to be an absolute wreck, and I don't think Foggy has been quite this close to the action before so I'm really not sure how he's going to react. And what the hell is Dex going to do after he takes the suit off? Just go home? Or is he like...Fisk's property now?
So many questions. Thank you all so much for listening! See you next week!

    Daredevil, Season 3: Episodes 1, 2, & 3
Welcome back, everyone! Maggie and I haven't talked about Daredevil in a hot minute, and let me tell you...I think we finally have this whole Netflix series formula worked out. These series aren't really great to cover one episode at a time, as we have learned, so we're doing 3 episodes at a time and then the finale will either be a big one with 4 episodes covered, or a shorter one covering only the final episode. Maggie will be the one to decide if the finale deserves its own podcast, so we will keep you posted!
In these opening episodes of Season 3, Matt is inexplicably fine after the explosion somehow airlifts him from danger, not at all breaking his spine on the way down as it seemed to me. Matt drags himself to someone who can give him a ride to the orphanage where he grew up, and holes up there, while a no-fucking-nonsense nun named Sister Maggie nurses him back to health.
It's not long before Sister Maggie tells Matt to get lost, because she's got better shit to do and she's really kind of over his whole self-pity gig. Matt is annoyed, as he expected more sympathy or support or coddling or I don't even know what, but he feels better once a magical neti pot clears his head and some of his super-senses return. One superpower he never lost, however, was his ability to be a self-righteous, self-centered, self-involved douche, and he goes right out into the world and keeps on doing that. Except sometimes Wilson Fisk is there to cheer on the worst parts of him.
I'm very interested to hear what you all thought of this trio of episodes, and I will be seeing you soon with another 3!
