  • The Midnight Poutine Podcast - Dec. 19-Christmas(!), 2013

midnight-poutine-podcastWe're moving to a new website! Don't worry, the podcast will stay the same, as will the people who do it, but we'll be publishing over a site called Radio Cannon in 2014. Tune in for full details.

It's also our goodbye Greg/Christmas edition, and we play some unreleased tracks from iconic Montreal indie bands and some less tacky than you'd think holiday tunes from the likes of Malajube and The Mountains and the Trees. Ho Ho Ho Canada! It's been great, Greg. May Toronto take you into its musical bosom with open arms and much love. And remember that a 6-hour drive does not a friendship break. We'll be seeing you.

Smiley faceWe're entering the final stretch of 2013 but not letting up one bit. This week, we say goodbye to Montreal scene fixtures Sweet Mother Logic. We also talk about the beautiful sounds of Erik Lind & The Orchard, Emma Frank, Lindi Ortega, and Sean Nicholas Savage, then get rowdy with Hiroshima Shadows and Canadian grindcore legends Fuck the Facts. As always, it's a mixed bag -- the delicious kind.

Both are industry events but offer some very unique an exciting opportunities for the public to see big bands in small venues. Listen for some tips. You'll hear music from our local faves, CTZNSHP, who are playing the premiere of Come Worry With Us! (a film about Thee Silver Mt. Zion), as well as Franco pop disco-sleaze artist Jimmy Hunt, the virtuosic Black Atlass, and the legendary Slayer.

Shauit on the Midnight Poutine PodcastThis week, we're previewing M for Montreal and Mundial - two industry festivals with some incredibly cool and rare show opportunities for the public. We also talk about Jef Barbara's album launch, the return of the legendary Mazzy Star, the wondrous post-rock sounds of Mono, and a lot more. Listen up for a little bit of hiphop, a little bit of South African folk, and a whole lot of love/politically insensitive jokes from Greg, Theo, Emily and me.

Smiley faceBOO! Did we scare you? We at least startled you, right? Hmm. We might need to work on this. This week's podcast offers plenty of time to devise the best strategies for haunting the neighbourhood since it's a big Halloween double header. That means twice the podcast, covering twice the shows, and with frights at least three times bigger than usual. The next two weeks offer rare performances by musical legends My Bloody Valentine and Sparks, Halloween parties with Sheezer and Saxsyndrum, fresh jams from Phédre, and much, much more.

cocorosie.jpgWe're back, poutiners. It's a post-Pop recovery podcast where we load your plate with two weeks worth of tunes. Settle in as we discuss spamming Hugo Manuel, 80s slowdance jams, and smoking out with Ty Segall. Things get touchy when we contest band name punctuation (you're not off the hook, Godspeed). Plus, Greg and Amie coin new genres (hashtag kill-wave, hashtag disco-funk-tro). This kind of a big deal. Dibs, Pitchfork.

    Happy turkey day, y'all!

  • POP Montreal Preview Podcast #4 - Sept. 28, 2013

pop-montreal-killer-mikeIt's POP Montreal weekend, which means the mixed salad at La Panthère Verte on St-Viateur will be all sold out, and Aux Vivres will be bumping. It also means a ton of great singer/songwriters and a couple of R&B-heavy, "dance the night away" events. And if you haven't stepped outside your front door, you should, because it's hot and POP is begging you to come out and play.

MP_Technical KidmanFix.jpgPull up those bootstraps, poutiners! You've gone hard Wednesday and Thursday, and there is no time to slow down. Rally some weekend energy, because your Friday is stacked with Pop Montreal gems. In our third episode of the Pop Montreal podcast marathon, you'll find big names like The Dream (playing with MP sweetheart Mozart's Sister), and Local Natives (playing with shoegaze kings Wild Nothing). But it's the up-and-coming talent that will really blow your mind: Our favs Emilie & Ogden will be harp strummin' at their album launch at Le Belmont, and save some dance party energy for a late night with Technical Kidman at Kathy and Kimy.
We're getting punchy, listeners. And it's not over yet!
