Doctor Who 42 to Doomsday is Australia’s longest running and most popular Doctor Who podcast.
Episode 115 – It’s a miracle as the Four Wise Men (Rob, Mark, Dave and Richard) reunite to end the year on a high (?) note for our Ninth Annual Staff Christmas Party to discuss all things Doctor Who.
After acknowledging the state of the world in our opener, we down several G&T’s to get into the spirit(s) of the season and then take a sharp turn right and examine the Top 5 crimes the Doctor has committed. Marvel as Richard gets all Jim Bakker with his selections viewed through a Biblical (Old Testament, baby!) lens.
The Target Book Club is back in a session as we dig deep into Cybermen story novelisations from the 60’s and 80’s. Are they 'excellent' or a load of old Mondas?
The Fanwank of the Year Award is back! Some of the ‘usual suspects’ make a return (cough Big Finish cough) but will the current production team and its organ the Cardiff Pravda escape unscathed?
All this plus Richards ‘theory’ about Rogue, the hiring of intimacy co-ordinators and a letter from a listener!
42 to Doomsday will return (sporadically and whenever we get sign off from the men with the butterfly nets) in 2025!
Episode 114 - Lock up your mothers and pull out your favourite bottle of red as the Statler and Waldorf of Doctor Who podcasting return with a bang! In this episode we host Aron Challinger, noted merchandising maestro and all round (or is that oval) good egg to chew over the parlous state of Doctor Who merchandising and rue the missed opportunities.
We then divert to take a massive whack at the deplorable latest series (is it 1 or 14?) of our favourite show. Did expectations match reality? But fear not, we end on our trademark high!
Programming note: This episode was recorded before the 15th Doctor / Ruby Doll set being announced and we couldnt be arsed going back to update it
More information on Sylvester McCoy and Janet Fielding's upcoming Australian tour can be found at https://www.sirensofaudio.com/p/live-events.html
Episode 113 - Our 'hiatus' is over and we provide a long awaited update on the 'hoarder' tapes with guests Aron Challinger and Professor Jason Bainbridge. They bring us bang up to date with what has been uncovered as well as the plan for cataloging and viewing the material.
We also delve into the background of the individuals who recorded the material as well understanding the final fate of some of the tapes.
All this plus, who was Pluka a Duck?, our very own Space Pirates part 2 moment and the most important question...are Rob and Mark back in the podcasting saddle?

We conclude our look back on the Doctor Who VHS range via the fandoms' orifice that was DWB! Listen as the afterglow of the recovery of Tomb gives way to rancour and bile! Marvel at how the titles of 30th anniversary year are leaked to the outrage of some. We look at the classic stories that were overlooked and instead replaced with 'patchwork' titles selected to keep a former producer gainfully employed!
What missing episode of Doctor Who is the equivalent Schrödinger's Cat? Was Roger K Barrett any relation to the former lead singer of Pink Floyd? And find out which one of our listeners broke the embargo and got to watch Tomb of Cybermen 3 days before everyone else!!!
All this plus we 'celebrate' our 10th Anniversary by taking a small (and self-indulgent) stroll down memory lane to reminisce about the good old days. All this, some special appearances from 'phantoms of the past!' and listen to the very end for some Tomb of the Cybermen radio goodness from 1992!!

Episode 111 - To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the home video release of Revenge of the Cybermen we stroll down memory lane and present to you an (extremely) potted history of the Doctor Who video range through the rabid eyes of fandom and its vehicle of choice DWB!
In this first installment, we discuss how the range came into existence, the non canon covers, naughty edits, how many times particular titles were re-released and re-released yet gain and just like the Ashes chat about how Australia won the 'best Tom Baker stories released in Australia before the UK' stakes.
All that plus our Tomb of the Cybermen on VHS reminises and latest* news including Mark’s calm and measured response on the return of Mantovani Gold!
* Latest at the time of recording!
Episode 110 - Everyone in fandom remembers the bombshell news late in 2022 heard exclusively in episode 106 – Unleash the Hoard(ers)! of the 42 to Doomsday podcast, announcing the discovery of a hoard of audio-visual material recorded off domestic television in Australia dating back to the early 1970s.
We promised you, our loyal listeners, that we would keep you up to date with any new information as it came to hand. Well, we come through with our promise big time by bringing you an exclusive interview with Professor Jason Bainbridge, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, the man responsible for taking on this vast collection and integrating it into the media studies course at the University of Canberra.
Listen as Professor Bainbridge discusses his history with the show, the role popular culture plays in our present day lives, the state of the Australian television and film industries, before he moves on to discuss the vast scope of the collection, what he hopes to achieve with it academically, and his hopes for what might be waiting to be brought blinking into the light of day.
42 to Doomsday – your go to podcast for the inside running on this fascinating story!
Episode 109 - Doctor Who has always had a troubled relationship over the years with Australian censors. In this episode we demonstrate how troubled with the able assistance of researcher Mike Pummel who has dug up a treasure trove of correspondence relating to the many cuts that were inflicted upon our favourite show!
We discuss the process of how episodes of Doctor Who and other TV shows were submitted for review before transmission and what needed to be excised to achieve a ‘family friendly’ rating during the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Was there any method to their madness? Or was it down to an individual's view on how to protect fragile Australian minds from British filth and violence?
What other shows failed to escape the dreaded guillotine and ‘Holy censorship!’, we detail the cuts made to Caves of Androzani Part 4 and would have Mark’s ‘directors cut’ suggestion for the ending saved the show from cancellation?
All this plus Rob goes back to the sweet, sweet 90s and gives us all a taste of Young Rob's percolating bile against the New Adventures!

Episode 108 - It's our contractually obligated New Years Eve Special and
we conclude our 1982 archival dragging sifting through the mountains of fan correspondance sent to both Celestial Toyroom and Skaro!
Listen as fans react to the recently transmitted Season 19. Was Davison's Fifth Doctor a 'hit' or 'miss' from the off? What is the marketing potential of plastic celery? Gasp in wonder at the high praise for a certain script editor that continues to echo some 40 years later!
All this...plus Rob comes clean with his true feelings for a certain Antipodean 80's companion!
42 to Doomsday will be back in 2023 for our 10th year!! (Should we change our name to 52 to Doomsday?)
Episode 107 – We are back (and just in time for Xmas!) While Rob is forages through the hoarder's house for any fragments of Power of the Daleks, Mark, Dave and Richard reconvene!
We reminisce about our favourite and not so favourite convention anecdotes where discuss our (naughty and nice) encounters with Doctor Who fans and guests alike. Gas as we regale you with tales of guests who made a beeline for the buffet lunch and then shout through. And let your mind boggle at the stories of fist fights in the men's room!
The dreaded metal pepper pots are the focus of our Target Book Club this episode! We whisk ourselves away via the power of prose to Skaro, Mechanus, Spiridon and...umm...Skaro again and too close things out we put forward our nominations for Fanwank of the Year Award!
All this plus our tribute to the late, great Chris Boucher, find out which co-host’s bottom appeared in the DWB Compendium AND will Dave’s coffee table survive the channelling by Richard of Doctor Who’s number one fan???
Episode 106 - Rob and Mark are joined by our special guest, Aron Challinger and in this episode listen to Aron recount how he came across one of the largest and oldest collection of domestic home video tapes in Australia and the strange story attached to them and the possibility of missing material Doctor Who or otherwise included in this haul?
