Everybody has that one thing they were obsessed with when they were kids. The thing that was THEIR thing. This is a show where Alan Maguire, Sarah Maria Griffin, and Ellen Tannam invite interesting people to tell them all about their thing, how they felt about it then, and how they feel about it now. It's nice, you'll like it.
On Halloween Night 1992, the BBC aired Ghostwatch, which purported to be a live investigation into a house and family that had been plagued by poltergeist activity. The studio segments were hosted by Michael Parkinson, while children’s presenter Sarah Greene explored the house and interviewed the family at the center of the haunting. Things started to go very wrong and the show ended in disaster. Due to a quirk of scheduling, a large part of the audience didn’t realise that it was all fake. Ghostwatch is frequently listed as one of the scariest TV moments of all time. Ghostwatch was written by Stephen Volk and directed by Lesley Manning.
Comics writer and artist Nick Roche joins us to relive his experience of watching Ghostwatch, aged 13, dressed as Batman for Halloween.
Nick is @NickRoche. His orignal graphic novel Scarenthood is out now and he’s currently the robot designer for Transformers:EarthSpark on Nickolodeon.

Hey there, Alan and Andrea have some recommendations for you now that autumn has properly hit. They’ve got an album and three TV shows. We say recommendations but you’ve definitely heard of at least two of these already. The things are:
Hayley Heynderickx - I Need To Start A Garden (with some bonus chat about Cat Cylde)
Frasier (told you you’d heard of some of them already)
Gilmore Girls (ditto, also the cheek of Alan to go to great lengths to explain how he wanted to avoid obvious choices for autumn albums and then pick GILMORE GIRLS as a TV rec)
Midnight Mass (Netflix)
Alan is @alan_maguire. Juvenalia is his main thing right now but he does a bit of standup sometimes too.

Happy Bisexuality Awareness Week! To celebrate, award winning food TikTok/Instagram person Sian Conway joined us to talk about Brainiac: Science Abuse. If you know you know. We talked all about our school experiences of science, Richard “The Hamster“ Hammond, and of course, Jon Tickle walking across a swimming pool full of custard. We’d also forgotten quite how sexist the show was so we pitch some ideas to rebalance the scales if the show ever comes back.
Sian is @sianconway. She won the Irish Food Writing Award for best Instagram/TikTok account in 2023.

How much, if any, moral instruction do children take from the media they consume? Did the worm in Snow White have a face? And many more.
Rachel is @RachelConnoll14. Her debut novel Lazy City is out now. Her Substack is rachelconnolly.substack.com. Both are excellent.

This is a big one. We had a little gap in our schedule so Alan & Andrea decided to get all of their feelings about Elliott Smith down in podcast form. We talk about that voice, those melodies, that guitar playing, the time he and Louis theroux interviewed each other for Select Magazine, his creative partnership with Jon Brion and so much more.
Sidenote: consider this a kind of reverse trigger warning: we don’t talk about any details of Elliott Smith’s death or engage in any speculation around it in this episode.
Here’s the Elliott Smith and Jon Brion show we mention https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK4okHerWeI
