Thursday, 1st July, 2010. The blue doors of His Majesty’s prison Durham open widely to reveal the outline of a large imposing figure. At six feet, three inches tall, and weighing about 240 lbs, thirty-seven-years-old Raoul Moat was an intimidating figure who was prone to random aggressive outbursts.

24th May 2010. Bradford, England. A building caretaker sits reviewing CCTV footage as part of his regular duties. But this would not be any ordinary shift. A shadow appears just meters from the camera lens on what would normally be a deserted corridor.

Approaching the camera with ill-deserved confidence and a sick grin, was a man of medium build with dark hair. He walks brazenly up to the camera, stares down the lens, raises his left hand's middle finger, and tightly grips a crossbow in his right.

Soham, Cambridgeshire, England. A sleepy little town in the country with a tight-knit community. But those community bonds would be stretched to the limit when in August 2002, two ten-year-old girls would go missing somewhere in the area. 

The two girls were at a barbecue hosted by the parents of Holly Wells but left the home without telling any of the other guests. At 18:10, the girls went inside the house to play in Holly’s bedroom, this was to be the last time any of their friends or family would see them alive.

November 28th, 2020. The sun is gradually rising over the large city of Houston, in Texas, USA. But this was no ordinary day. At eight in the morning down Red Haw Lane, situated next to the Houston energy corridor, the naked body of a young woman was discovered.

This is the face of Karen Matthews. Her little girl; Shannon, just nine-years-old, has been missing for over a week at this point. She was last seen at 15:10 on the 19th February, 2008, leaving Westmoor junior school in the small town of Dewsbury, in Yorkshire, England. September 27th, 2007. In Sydney Australia, the night air is filled with the usual sights and sounds. Stars light up the sky and crickets fill the air with their endless chirps. On a quiet rural road in Waratah nature reserve, a green Toyota Corolla is parked with nobody inside and signs of life. The car belonged to 20-year-old Matthew John Leveson who had last been seen four days earlier leaving a popular Sydney night club, but nobody had seen or heard from him since. Where was Matthew? What had happened to this bright, confident young man? The police had been alerted, but their task would not be an easy one. It would take a significant period of time to get to the bottom of Matthew’s disappearance.

Willoughby Hills, Ohio, United States. A leafy and normally quiet suburb of Cleveland. That is until the 16th November 2012, when police receive a 911 call at 1:15 am from a young girl asking for help, hysterically telling dispatchers that her mother was being stabbed.  

Police arrived at the scene, entered the home, and were pointed in the direction of the master bedroom. They find a horrific scene. The bedroom was awash with fresh blood, and the bedsheets completely transformed into a sea of scarlet red, so much so, it was impossible to tell what colours they had been previously. Disguised beneath all this blood, the dead body of a woman, and standing over the body, a young girl covered in blood, knife in hand, looking very calm, almost peaceful. This is a case that shook all those involved, including the police investigators who had to use all of their experience and patience to get to the bottom of it.
