Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing a well-known Hogwarts artefact known as the Mirror of Erised. Specifically, we’re going to be getting in to a theory regarding it’s dark and otherwise UNKNOWN history. This particular mirror also happens to be the inspiration behind the outro featured on every video I launch on this channel.

On October 31st 1981, Lord Voldemort walked through the doors of the Potter cottage in Godric’s Hollow for the first time. But what should have been a seemingly straightforward mission for a powerful wizard at the height of his power ended up being a catastrophic event for both parties. Harry lost his parents and Voldemort lost his corporeal form- effectively putting an end to the First Wizarding War, and changing the course of Harry’s life forever.
But I can’t help but think that MOST of what occurred at the Potter cottage on that fateful night was avoidable altogether. A way that James, Lily and Harry would have been able to escape safely..And it involves Apparition.Â
Today we’re going to be exploring all of this and more as we tackle the question of: WHY DIDN’T THE POTTERS DISAPPARATE to escape Voldemort?
Let’s dive in.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re going to be discussing RETCONS- specifically, all of the RETCONS made by JK Rowling after the Harry Potter series had ended.
I should start off by making a clear distinction between what retcon USED to mean and what it means now, because somehow the term has evolved over time into something else altogether. Depending on which version of ‘Retcon’ you subscribe to, you’re going to have very different expectations for this list.
The ORIGINAL interpretation of Retcon, which stands for ‘Retroactive Continuity’, referred broadly to adding new information to previously told stories to expand or reinterpret the narrative. A good example of this would be JK Rowling revealing (through extended publications) that Witches and wizards VANISHED THEIR POOP via magic before the Hogwarts plumbing system came into effect.Â
And the more commonly understood modern definition of retcon refers specifically to changes that contradict previously established facts in the narrative, whether intentional or unintentional.
The distinction here is that this interpretation places an emphasis on these new facts conflicting with existing canon.
A third definition I found online seems to support either:
‘a literary device in which facts in the world of a fictional work that have been established through the narrative itself are adjusted, ignored, supplemented, or contradicted by a subsequently published work that recontextualizes or breaks continuity with the former.’
But for the sake of today’s video, we’re going to separate them, first placing our sights on works that CONTRADICT the source material, then shifting our perspective to more recently introduced content that SUPPLEMENTS the source material (but doesn’t change it).
Starting with the former.

Hey everyone, welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Before we get started, let me clarify what we’re diving into today: this video is all about the things we learn about the Harry Potter story after the series ended—little tidbits of info that Rowling shared outside of the books. These are the hidden nuggets of lore you’d only know if you kept up with interviews, Pottermore updates, or extended publications. Things like..Oh I don’t know, the fact that Rowling very seriously considered killing off Ron Weasley.
This video is NOT about what happens to the wizarding world or its characters after Voldemort’s defeat. That’s a whole different topic which I’ve covered extensively in the past. If you want to know about THAT kind of thing, check out my other videos.
Without further ado, let’s dive in to some of the most fascinating things we’ve learned about the Harry Potter series after it ended!

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, I’ve got a special compilation for you, featuring some of the darkest witches and wizards in wizarding history. Some of these names will be familiar, while others are much less well-known. However, one thing is certain: each of these witches and wizards has a rightful claim to the title of the darkest and most evil in wizarding history. So, if you want to be an expert on DARK WIZARDS then this is the video for you.
With Christmas just around the corner, it’s always nice to have Harry Potter content playing on repeat. But since there are only so many films, hopefully, this compilation helps pad out your playlist a little!
These videos span 5 years on the channel so please be aware that there WILL BE some varied audio levels and a little bit of repeat information.
Anyway, let’s dive in.

There are quite a few mistakes and plot holes in the Harry Potter books and films. In fact, there are enough for me to make several compilations of them. However, perhaps one of the most confusing and inconsistent elements of the Wizarding World is undoubtedly the ‘Trace’- a fairly major plot component that is riddled with contradictions.Â
To the Harry Potter casual, these issues with the Trace probably went by relatively unnoticed, but for the die-hards, it was hard to ignore the glaringly obvious ways in which the trace was misrepresented. There are also many components of the trace that are never explained- like how it is actually applied to underage witches and wizards.
Today, we’ll be diving deep into the Trace—exploring what it is, how it’s applied to children, and, through examples from the books and films, uncovering why this concept is essentially a total trainwreck. We’ll also be looking at the trace from a more SINISTER perspective via one of my theories.

"A magic this powerful can do great harm in the wrong hands. It must be wielded by a select few."
This fairly ominous quote of course refers to the phenomenon that is Ancient Magic—a primal, mysterious force that predates the more structured spellwork of the modern Wizarding World. Revered for its immense power yet feared for its unpredictability, ancient magic is woven into the tapestry of wizarding history, appearing in legends and the very foundations of wizarding society.
Yet, in the modern day we hear very little of this ‘ancient’ and powerful force. Which raises an important question: how could something so integral to the Wizarding World’s past have dwindled into what is effectively complete obscurity.
In today’s video, we’ll delve into the mysteries of Ancient Magic—exploring what it truly is, where it went, and examining some examples of Ancient Magic that appear throughout the series, some of which you may not have even realized were ancient magic at all.
