Her highly successful web series The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl (which has gained millions of views on YouTube alone), skyrocketed her career as a visual story teller and connected her with creative powerhouses ranging from Pharrell Williams to Shonda Rhimes. Now this Standford film grad is building her own media empire, with her growing Issa Rae Presents Youtube network, the upcoming release of her own original HBO series titled Insecure and the debut launch of her first podcast narrative series Fruit (which is available now of Howl.FM). Originally created by Issa Rae, Fruit tackles the multifaceted intersections of masculinity, race and sexual identity, within the hyper-masculine field of professional football. With an ensemble cast featuring Roderick Davis, Yutopia Essex and Andrew Allan James, Fruit takes an immersive look at the suffocating challenges some pro athletes endure, within the heteronormative constraints of pro sports.     The Detroit Regional LGBT Chambers Of Commerce continues to be a leading force in building employment, networking and substantial business growth opportunities within Detroit’s evolving LGBT community. Over the past year, the chamber has established significant momentum within Detroit business sector, by hosting a multitude of networking events that often mix work with play. One of the chamber’s most successful event series is their pioneering Pride Nights, which brings together Detroit’s LGBT community and local pro sport teams, for a night of networking and fun. These highly popular pride nights have been hosted within all of metro Detroit’s major sporting venues (including Comerica Park, Joe Louis Arena, Ford Field and, NFL Lions and The Palace Of Auburn Hills). In March of 2016, the chamber celebrated their second annual Pride Night At The Palace, which we graciously attended and enjoyed. In our latest feature interview we speak with Kevin Terrell Heard (founder of The Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber) and discuss the future of Detroit’s LGBT business sector.
