This episode tells some of the stories that we heard during the making of this season that for some reason didn’t fit in the episodes. They were still dope enough to share.  Whether it is about the infamous Doom Dunks, or some amazing background on the artwork that enhanced the music made by Doom, these stories will make you laugh, gasp and say “Oh Snap!!!”

In this episode we speak with Tom Brown, head of Lex Records in London. MF Doom signed with Lex Records in 2003, where he released four incredible albums, which included collaborations with Danger Mouse, J Dilla, Bishop Nehru, Janeiro Jarel, Ghostface Killah and Thom Yorke. Tom was the man at the helm at Lex and worked closely with Doom all the years he was there, although it took a while for them to actually meet face to face. He reflects fondly on the ups and downs, as well as, the opportunity to not only have worked with him for many years, but also of the bond they shared.

In this episode we chat with Young Guru, the award winning engineer and hip hop historian, as well as award winning producer Just Blaze. Both of them open up about their time at Baseline Studios which was the home recording studio for all things Roc-A-Fella Records. They reveal how the reception area at Baseline Studios became the true indicator for authentic hip hop of those truly in the “know”.
While producing, crafting, mixing, and mastering some of Hip Hop’s biggest tunes, Young Guru and Just Blaze with the rest of those who kept Baseline Studios operating were keeping their ears to the streets. Would those ears lead to what could possibly be the biggest surprise signing in Hip Hop history?!

In this season we have learned a great deal about the support system that DOOM had around him. After talking with members of the C.M. Fam it became clearer to us that the person who was a truly important part of DOOM’s story early on did not really get a chance to enjoy that period of time. His name was Grimm Reaper, later known as MF Grimm. Grimm was a significant part of DOOM’s career early on, even sharing the “MF” moniker. Grimm’s story of how DOOM got to where he is and what Grimm experienced during that time is not just a cautionary tale for those who hug the block and try to make music. It is a testament to the love and drive that can push friends beyond what they can see as success for themselves and their families.Â
We felt it was only right to give Grimm his own episode to thank him for the friendship and love he had for DOOM. He was the support system when DOOM needed it, and was a catalyst to creativity that would allow DOOM and Grimm to create the music that people love to this day. Thank you, Percy.

As DOOM continues to figure out how to hide in plain sight and perform without being in public eye, he becomes friends with one of NYC’s most legendary graffiti writers, KEO.  While they begin to create the artwork that would become the album cover for “Operation Doomsday," DOOM also asks KEO to help him create his now signature mask.  Ben Klingon and Del The Funky Homosapien help tell the story of how the mask came to be, and what else the mask was sometimes used for (other than the mask that DOOM wore).
