This is The Loop, a refreshing mix of everything you love to talk about around golf, with the only rule that you don’t take yourself or the game too seriously. Each week hosts Christopher Powers, Alex Myers, and Steve Hennessey, along with special guests from across the sports and entertainment worlds, will touch on what’s going in the game, who they’re putting money on, and whatever else comes up along the way.
The boys chat with 2023 PGA Championship folk hero Michael Block, who will be in the field at Valhalla thanks to his top-15 finish last year at Oak Hill. The 47-year-old club pro breaks down “The Year of Blockie,” discusses how he’s handled the internet trolls and gives us a sneak peek of his PGA Champ prep. Plus, we make our best bets for the second major of the year.
The boys chat with former NHL goalie Darren Pang, who now calls games between the benches for TNT. Pang will be on the call for Games 3 and 4 of the second-round series between the Florida Panthers and the Boston Bruins, and he’s already trying to finagle a tee time in Boston. He shares some A+ Wayne Gretzky stories with us, and explains how he became an ambassador for an elite golf club brand. Plus, the boys recap a crazy Byron Nelson finish and discuss CP’s “least favorite people to make a tee time with.”
The boys chat with four-time PGA Tour winner Kevin Kisner, who joined us from the range at Palmetto Golf Club. Despite some early success on television with NBC, Kiz continues to grind away at 40 years old. He tells us why he won’t quit, and he shares the hilarious reason he’s not even going to bother attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open.
Alex, Steve and CP chat about Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler’s ridiculous runs as well as 15-year-old Miles Russell’s impressive week on the Korn Ferry Tour. We talk with Canelo Alvarez, the legendary boxer and golf addict who is an executive producer on a new golf movie called “The Long Game.” We were also joined by James Sitar, founder of Back 9 Press, to discuss his impressive portfolio of golf books. Finally, CP breaks down his incredible Kiawah Island golf trip.
Alex, Steve and CP discuss another incredible Masters, which ended with another Scottie Scheffler victory and us ripping up our Xander Schauffele outright tickets. Plus, our boss, Sam Weinman, won the Masters Media Lottery and got to play the course on Monday. He takes us through (almost) every shot in painstaking detail.
The boys chat with broadcasting legend Mike Tirico, who will be calling this week’s Masters Tournament on SiriusXM PGA Tour radio. Tirico tells us about the challenges of going from television to radio, why it never gets old coming back to Augusta National and the time he nearly made an ace on one of the course’s famous par 3s. Plus, we chat with Keith Stewart, who helped us break down the season’s first major from a betting perspective.
Alex, Steve and CP are back for the Valero Texas Open, where this week’s guest, Matt Fitzpatrick, is in the field. We also discuss Nelly Korda’s recent run, Stephan Jaeger’s maiden victory and some of the great Masters Champions Dinner choices from over the years.
Johnson Wagner was the media star at The Players for his segments on Golf Channel’s “Live From”—in which he fired golf balls into the hill on Thursday night to mimic Rory McIlroy’s water ball. The three-time PGA Tour winner joined us to talk about his transition into media, where his dream live segment would come from for The Masters and he tells the story of which elite player turned him down for a video last year.
The boys also break down Peter Malnati’s win and tell their own stories of how nice of a guy Malnati is. And as Cameron Young fans, we set a new over/under on his total career wins.
We recap a fantastic Sunday at The Players Championship, where CP was rolling on the ground for Wyndham Clark (we explain). Keith Stewart, our new betting partner and CEO of Read The Line, was also at TPC Sawgrass, and he gives us his biggest takeaways for bettors ahead of the Valspar and the upcoming Masters.
Plus, Brian Anderson of TNT Sports, joins us to not only chat March Madness but also his times covering golf, which includes The Match with Tiger, Phil, Peyton and Brady. He’s got some great stories from those events … including working with Charles Barkley (and playing golf with him).
Call it what you want: The Players Championship is one of the biggest weeks in golf. The strongest non-major field is at TPC Sawgrass, and our new content partner, Keith Stewart of Read The Line, is there, too. Keith dishes on his favorite outright bets, which include a former champion who Keith says is strutting around Ponte Vedra Beach so far this week.
Longtime golf writer Bob Harig joins us ahead of the release of his new book “Drive: The Lasting Legacy of Tiger Woods.” Plus, the boys recap Bay Hill, LIV Hong Kong and debate who had the better Sunday – Scottie Scheffler or Anthony Kim?
