The official home for audio programming from Winging It In Motown, SB Nation's community for fans of the Detroit Red Wings.
So this is it. After 4 years and 76 episodes, we have recorded our final episode. Thankfully, we were able to close out the show with Jay returning for the final episode to join Sara and me.
The first segment focuses on why I am leaving Winging it in Motown after five years, and mostly, why I decided to end the podcast. We talked about the recent horrible events in NHL news that have made me feel this way, and Jay and Sara shared their thoughts about it all.
We wanted the majority of the show to be fun, though! So the second segment is a look back on our favorite moments from the four years of doing the show.
The third segment features a few mailbag questions that we sort of answered, but had a lot of fun with. Then we closed out with one final game. I hope you enjoy playing along with Jay and Sara as they try to determine which questions are shocking moments in video game history and which ones I made up in the game “The Shock and the Spurious.”

We are now using Zoom to record, and we have been recording our own audio as well, but this time, I’m just using the Zoom tracks, and it sound pretty similar. Please excuse my blown out voice in the beginning, I accidentally had the automatic level control set for my microphone, and it started way too hot.
Here’s what we have for you this time (all time locations are without the ads because they are put in after we upload the episode)

24:20 - We talk to our amazing guest Shayna Goldman about a lot of stuff, some of it even hockey related. We talk a little about what it is to cover an organization that has some lottery luck, how hard it is to evaluate prospects, and even crazy flavors of Oreos. Plus, we finish with a game!
58:56 - Robin Lehner spoke out about frustrations with the COVID restrictions in the NHL and how it impacts players with mental health issues. We talk through the multiple issues at play in the discussion that surrounds his comments.

Here’s what we have for you this time (all time locations are without the ads because they are put in after we upload the episode)
00:00 - Introduction to our guest, who covers Nashville for On the Forecheck. We talk about Nashville's terrible season so far, as well as the lottery system proposed changes
23:40 - Finishing the discussion of the lottery. ESPN is going to be showing the NHL next season, and we talk about how we feel about that.
46:24 - Wrapping up the discussion on ESPN and watching hockey. We have to talk at least a little bit about suspensions and NHL on-ice discipline, which is a dumpster fire as always. We wrap up with some positive thoughts!

On this episode of Fer Sure, we have a major change to the show. If you haven't heard already, Jay is not able to continue as co-host. He has been such a major part of the creation and growth of the show, so he will be deeply missed. But luckily, former guest co-host Sara is joining as permanent co-host.
Here’s what we have for you this time (all time locations are without the ads because they are put in after we upload the episode)
00:00 - A little about the personnel changes to the show. We introduce special guest Pat Iversen, who will be with us all episode. We talk about when players you hate join your team, what's going on with Dallas this season.
26:10 - Continue reader questions (I forgot about leaving time for the breaks and had to put them in after :) Dungeons and Dragons (Pat is a player in my weekly group.) A terrible "study" about hockey fans.
53:35 - We answer the one question about Detroit and play a little game where we plan a heist using NHL teams.

Here’s what we have for you this time (all time locations are without the ads because they are put in after we upload the episode)
00:00 - So the NHL has a return to play protocol. We talk about why it’s likely not going to work.
19:55 - Also, the NHL has announced how the lottery is going to work. We’re not fans. But we do talk about the crazy playoffs scenarios.
47:05 - There’s obviously a lot of things going on right now other than hockey. We talk about what we’ve been up to.

On this episode of Fer Sure, we talk to Andrew Thomas, who in addition to being a former professor at Carnegie Mellon, co-founder of seminal hockey stats site War On Ice, and an analyst for the Minnesota Wild, was on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Jay is still swamped with work, but Sara joins again as co-host, and even gets to play a game against a trivia heavyweight!
Here’s what we have for you this time (all time locations are without the ads because they are put in after we upload the episode)
00:00:00 - Intros, Andrew’s time with Minnesota and experience in the world of hockey stats
00:16:01 - Who wants to talk about Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? We did. We also talk about trivia in general, and Andrew’s presentation on how to prepare for Jeopardy.
00:36:56 - “If You’re Not in Third Position, You Might Miss the Playoffs.” I put together a game based on Andrew’s viral dancing chops on Millionaire. They have to guess if a name is a ballet dancer from a Russian Ballet Company or a member of the 2010 U-18 Russian Hockey Team. Of course Sara thought of the name “Plie-r or Player” after, which is annoying because it’s clearly better.
