Doctors are warning that a plan by the Federal Government to let patients bypass their GP to get a specialist referral could lead to a US-style health system and longer waits for specialities in high demand.
Under the proposed changes, patients would be able to get a referral from other medical professionals, including physiotherapists and midwives, without needing to return to their doctor.

It has been revealed that Australia’s delegation to the COP 29 Climate Summit in Ajerbizan, has totaled almost 100 Australian Government bureaucrats and nearly 500 attendees in total.
The travel alone of Australia’s delegation will cost taxpayers more than one million dollars, and the $871,628 the Australia government spent on building its pavilion at the exhibition sees the total sale past $2 million.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has launched a bold new proposal designed to stop the closure of rural banks .
The Treasurer emailed bank executives this week outlining how they may be forced to pay a levy, costing up to tens of millions dollars a year, if they don’t keep enough rural and regional branches open.
