My House In Your Haus #33: Like A Phoenix
The dice were thrown and I'm offering you to get away for an hour. Jump in this topdown until Sunday morning. I picked some minimal, some vintage, some floating synths and even a sound letter. We visit Burma and listen to the detuned pipe-sound of scales that we don't use in Western music. This episode is soft for your nervous system and exiting for the brain. It's always a balance. We enter big rooms and leave our worries at the door. Pick up the rhythm of freedom and rise up like a phoenix. Welcome to the pod. SHAPE+: Nick Dunston
Next up in the SHAPE+ series is Nick Duston “I am informally referring to this mixtape as Colla Voce, or 'with the voice' in Italian. This is a nod to the instruction often seen in European classical vocal music, where an instrumentalist is instructed to simply follow the voice. It is also a nod to my most recent album, COLLA VOCE, which has a track that can be heard on this mixtape (OXYGEN). To narrow my admiration for this instrument down to an hour is an insurmountable task, but nonetheless, here are some of my favorite pieces of music using the voice in one way or another. All of these artists are active, and I  encourage you to explore their powerful bodies of work.” Nick Dunston is an acoustic and electroacoustic composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist. Called an “indispensable player on the New York avant-garde” (New York Times), his performances have spanned a variety of venues and festivals across North America and Europe. His work explores notions of ancestral memory, materiality, embodiment, decolonization, and Afro-surrealism. Nick Dunston is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union and Pro Helvetia. Musik i Hjernen: Episode 5 - Dyrene

    Shape+: Dania
Next up in the Shape+ series is Dania. “This mix is a collection of organic sounds, guitar, violin, cello and especially voice. I’ve included a few demos I’ve been working on with just guitar and voice with my friend Ilyas Ahmed which will be released on Geographic North in October. Here you will also hear some music from Ulla and Perila who just released an album on my label Paralaxe Editions. They used the floor as a studio to create some beautiful ambient jazz. Also, some forthcoming by composer Flora Yin Wong which will come out next year. All in all, some gentle but visceral sounds. Some other reverby bells, and music for tranquil times.” An architect of textured, neo-ambient soundscapes, Dania explores both sound and identity, focusing specifically on how the latter has fractured in a post-colonial world. Born in Baghdad, raised in Tasmania and now based in Barcelona, she moves between cultures and continents, her amorphous creative vision directly tied to her transient existence. The founder of experimental platform Paralaxe Editions, Dania divides her time between Spain and the remote corners of Australia, where she works as an emergency doctor. Dania is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union and Pro Helvetia. My House In Your Haus #32: Music that makes you go hmmmm
Autumn is colorful and so is the music in this episode. I picked out some beauties and oddities, some with radical stories even. We're going back a bit to dig out some early electronica endeavours, like the invention of a machine that let's you draw the sound. We meet two nuns making a DIY album bathed in delays. Also looking into a Goddess' eyes. We're in limbo for a bit, but Venezuela taps us in again and we get new directions to a sparkling world over the horizon. On a far away planet they invent new sounds. There's a lot of treats for those insterested in production and those enjoying the quirky, out of frame styles. At last the sound of goodnight, you can keep your name and then comes the rain. Welcome to an hour of wouw. SHAPE+: Lenok
Next up in the Shape+ series is Lenók. “Your computer, headphones or speakers, listen to them. Words slide onto syllables copying mouth in mumbles. Broadcasting signal, echoing curves from typing, then this mesh sent, edited, processed. And then curves will move around your hair. Determination of unrested humming as if some pop can’t hurt,  from what I heard. Just a small interaction in public eye. Just a sketch of a wonder untamed. Days go by, nights won't shut. Come closer.” By combining digital sound design with mutated vocal fragments, Lénok conjures multiple temporalities that are simultaneously haunting and liberating, offering opportunities to consider alternative realities. At the core of her practice is an exploration of sound and embodiment.
