We are recording today’s episode on marble, which is something we have absolutely loved doing in our projects. Since the beginning of Alice Lane, we have always tried to have marble in each design we do. It just changes the game and adds that organic movement, character, and depth. In a world of squares, we need that veining, which just takes it to a whole new level. We talk about our dolce tray, which is this rounded marble platform used as a luxurious spot to place your desserts or gourmet bites. Listen in today to hear the various marble sets and decor that we recommend!
“A round dish with a big bull nose edge, it comes in 2 sizes. You could just put a grand candle in it for your entryway, or your center hall table, or your kitchen island, or the coffee table, or you keep candy in it, or the list goes on. Put it on your nice stand, put your glass of water and your nighttime pills, whatever. It’s so pretty. All the perfume bottles, you could make up a million reasons for it.” 29:10

Today we are doing a whole episode on the beloved Ralph Lauren who is the favorite of so many in the design world. It is so foundational in American design and even timeless, which is really fun because he can tackle any style and demographic anything and all of them are timeless because they’re all true and authentic, which is exactly what Ralph Lauren is. It’s so iconic and well known that the name has become a verb. It’s a fashion house, a lifestyle, and is the idyllic American dream. Whatever style you are, or wherever you are, whether it be Southwestern, cowboy, Jamaican, or Manhattan, he does so many styles that you can really try this on for yourself in whatever place or way and it’s for everybody. “You have a full life to be able to create. You can’t create from emptiness.”
“In a bedroom, they’ve got the big 48 inch round table and he has his own lighting line through visual comfort, he’s got an oil painting on his several picture frames books, a glass of water, it’s just such a generous big surface, and with those generous big surfaces you just really feel well collected and homey. And he loves objects and beautiful things.” 32:55

We are doing a fun episode today for all of you who are new out there, or for those of you who are wondering why on Earth we have a podcast. So we’re going to reintroduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about each of us, why we’re doing a podcast, and give you a rundown of who we are and how this all got started. There are a lot of things we do at Alice Lane because the need is there, so listen in today to get a better understanding of us!
“We don’t wanna be a me too. If we’re gonna do this, we wanna be able to offer something original to the marketplace, and to be really passionate about it, and show people how to use it in their home. If we’re doing all this for vendor products, why not do it for our own? And why not create that stuff that we really wish existed?” 45:58

In part 2 of our discussion about doors, we finish up talking about interior doors, and then shift our focus to exterior doors, exploring how they make a statement and reflect the personality of a home. Many of our listeners want to know how best to decorate and style their outside doors, namely the front door and how to paint it in the most stylistic way.
“ I love Classic Brass, I love their lines, everything about them, they do a fantastic job again with the weight, and with the profiling of their levers and their knobs. I will say this, this is something you should ask yourself at the dinner table between New Years and Christmas, ask everyone ‘Are you a knob, or a lever?’” 33:30

In this episode we talk about doors, which is a fun subject to discuss during this holiday season when front doors are so decorated and seen by those we care about. We had a listener send in a great question about doors and we wanted to answer and expand on this. We will be doing two parts to this episode and in this part, we’re going to talk about interior doors. Sophie asked what the do’s and don’ts are of interior doors, if single door panels are going out of style, what type of door style is timeless, and do they all need to be the same? So listen to this episode to get our take.
“There are really these golden means to the weighted portion that you were just talking about. When we’re looking at door elevations and customizing them or picking them, your eyeballs naturally go to the one that feels the most balanced and has the weighted bottom,, and it has the hardware in the right spot. That’s a good door. If you don’t trust yourself, talk to somebody that you trust to look at the doors before you buy or build them.” 28:20
