This week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Castrol looks back at the rise and fall of one of Australian motorsport’s most exciting categories: AUSCAR.
Created as the second-tier category at Bob Jane’s Calder Park Thunderdome, AUSCAR quickly became a star attraction in its own right through a simple formula that had, at the time, disappeared from Australian circuits: V8 Holdens and Fords racing head to head.
We chat about how it came about, the star drivers, what triggered its downfall, where some of the cars went, and share your memories from an incredible period of racing.

He’s back! Supercars hero Greg Murphy makes his second visit to the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Castrol for this week’s episode.
A lot has happened since his debut appearance on the pod back in 2020 so there’s plenty to talk about.
Among the topics is talking about all the fun he had in the V8 Sleuth Heritage Revival at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000, and plenty of chat about the upcoming Taupō Historic GP and some of the incredible cars and drivers that will be on hand for the event on January 11-12.
We also grill him on some Supercars topics, including his thoughts on the new Finals system and Richie Stanaway’s move to PremiAir for 2025, and get him talking about a few things from his career that we didn’t get a chance to ask about the first time around.

For this Ryco Rewind we're going back to the Sunday leg of the 2013 Sydney NRMA Motoring & Services 500 at Homebu… ahem, sorry … ‘Sydney Olympic Park’, a race that delivered one of the greatest largely unseen moments of ATCC/Supercars history: when Will Davison divebombed his brother Alex for seventh place on the last lap of the season. In Will’s defence, he had an extremely lucrative reason for doing so…

- Is Heritage Revival coming back for next year’s Bathurst 1000?
- The percentage of cars that won races in COTF/Gen2 and in Gen3
- How many S2 cars would’ve made the Top 10 Shootout at Bathurst over the years when combining their qualifying times with the ‘main game’ ones
- And plenty more!

You’ve heard the voice, now hear his story! Long-time commentator Matt Naulty joins us for this week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Castrol.
‘Knuckles’ has been part of the Supercars commentary team for over a decade now, but has also lent his dulcet tones to a wide range of motorsports, including speedway and Stadium Super Trucks both here and abroad.
But his links with the sport go deeper than that: back in the 1990s, he was a part of a couple of race teams, including a team that took part in the inaugural Adelaide 500 back in 1999!

Australian motorsport veteran David Russell joins us for this week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Castrol.
Over two parts, the racer known as both ‘Coighty’ and ‘D-Russ’ takes us back through his diverse career behind the wheel, culminating in his reputation as one of Supercars’ top co-drivers.
In Part 2 he goes into his years as a hired gun for Supercars teams, including a long run with Kelly Racing that spanned its Holden and Nissan eras. Russell touches on his near-miss on a deal that would’ve landed him on the grid full-time in 2012, plus his infamous collision with a kangaroo in the early laps of the 2013 Bathurst 1000, and shares the story of a famously disastrous pre-Bathurst kayaking trip undertaken by the Kelly Racing enduro drivers!
He also covers his unexpected exit from Tickford in early 2019, success with Erebus Motorsport, and his decision to depart the team earlier this year only for them to win Bathurst.

Over two parts, the racer known as both ‘Coighty’ and ‘D-Russ’ takes us back through his diverse career behind the wheel, culminating in his reputation as one of Supercars’ top co-drivers.
In Part 1 he talks about his dad’s racing, why he didn’t go via the traditional karting route and starting his racing career in his mid-teens aboard two very different machines: a turbocharged Datsun Sports Sedan and a bog-standard Suzuki Swift!
He also covers his years in GT Production with Proton, the competition that kick-started his Supercars career, racing in the Bathurst 12 Hour, and some of the behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing to move up the ladder.
