This week on It Was a Thing on TV we begin our annual Pilot Month!
Â
First, one of the amazing technological marvels of the mid-1980s was the story telling teddy bear Teddy Ruxpin. A cartoon was later created around the world of Teddy Ruxpin but before that, a live-action pilot was created. Coincidentally, this pilot aired in two parts in late 1985, just in time to purchase Teddy Ruxpin as a holiday gift.

Then, in 1998, the variety show as we know it had been a dead format for close to 20 years. However, what if you could revive one of the greatest variety shows ever with a host who had been deceased for nearly a quarter century? That was attempted by UPN with a virtual Ed Sullivan, voiced by John Byner. The result was this one-off pilot which was reminiscent of a more recent format, and with star power packing arenas to this day.

The first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs have come to a close (some earlier than others), so what sense is there to make of the second round, with so many Hall of Famers already gone fishin'? Well, fear not, because Adam Murray and Andrew Riche, Place To Be Nation's NBA-Team, are back in town to discuss the four match-ups! The Cleveland Cavaliers won their first playoff series without LeBron James since the 90's, but how much of a threat can Donovan Mitchell's crew really be against the mighty Celtics? It's the Knicks and the Pacers again, but why is all about offense instead of defense as the Pacers try to outscore the magnificent Jalen Brunson? Can the young, athletic Oklahoma City Thunder swat away the savvy superstars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas? And after one game already being played, is it possible that the West will be won between Minnesota and Denver? All this, draft lottery talk, and much more! So suit up and take it out in episode 304 with the NBA-Team!
