Codie Sanchez is a formidable force in the world of finance, known for her bold, contrarian thinking, financial acumen and entrepreneurial prowess. Codie comes by blue collar ownership and education the old fashioned way, her parents. Her mom a 30 year special education teacher and her dad a self made blue collar builder many times over inspired her to keep building. Determined to figure out what leads to real freedom, Codie graduated early from Arizona State University with a degree in journalism. She spent time in Juarez, Mexico, where she worked to bring attention to the murder, mutilation and human trafficking of thousands of women. Codie’s coverage of the atrocities in Juarez earned her the Robert F. Kennedy award for print journalism. But after witnessing firsthand the ways in which financial stability could be a lifeline, Codie realized she didn’t want to write stories, she wanted to change them. She saw that people hold the power—and the purse strings—but they have to be able to bet on themselves in order to succeed. Codie shifted gears from journalism to finance, dedicating herself to learning how to earn more money so she could help others do the same. In 2008, Codie took her first job in finance at Vanguard. That same year, the 2008 financial crisis struck and Codie again witnessed the devastating impact of financial illiteracy on ordinary people. Over the next several years, she redoubled her efforts to master the financial industry, ascending the ranks of prominent institutions such as Goldman Sachs, State Street, and First Trust. Over the next decade, Codie’s entrepreneurial drive led her to buy, build and invest in an array of businesses, like laundromats and cannabis companies. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Codie kept betting on herself and eventually created an investment portfolio as diverse as her skills. Now fluent in the language of finance, dealmaking, mergers and acquisitions, Codie began working on a way to pull her experiences together. The goal was, as it had always been, to reach, educate and empower other people. When a global pandemic brought the world to a standstill in 2020, Codie realized it was time to take action. She launched Contrarian Thinking, the world’s first free-thinking finance and media company. In spite of the global pandemic it launched in, Contrarian Thinking has empowered thousands to take control of their financial destinies and become successful small business owners. This venture fosters a community of more than four million contrarian thinkers worldwide, teaching the tenets of financial freedom and supporting small business ownership.

Steven Donziger is an environmental justice and human rights lawyer who helped Amazon communities in Ecuador win the largest trial court judgment ever against a fossil fuel company. The case, Aguinda v. Chevron, resulted in a$9.5 billion judgment against Chevron affirmed unanimously by both Ecuador's Supreme Court and Canada's Supreme Court for enforcement purposes. Rather than pay the judgment in a court where it had accepted jurisdiction, Chevron vowed to "demonize Donziger" and sued him for billions of dollars using roughly 60 law firms and 2,000 lawyers. When Donziger famously appealed a court order to turn over his computer and confidential case file to Chevron, a judge in 2019 charged him with criminal contempt of court. When the federal prosecutor rejected the misdemeanor charge, the same judge appointed a private Chevron law firm to act in the shoes of the US government and prosecute Donziger directly in the nation's first corporate prosecution. This resulted in his arbitrary detention at home and in prison for 993 days in a case that the UN's Working Group On Arbitrary Detention condemned as a violation of international law. Three federal judges – including two from the US Supreme Court – have condemned Donziger's prosecution as unconstitutional. Donziger, who is currently seeking a pardon from President Biden, lives in New York City with his wife and son.
