Watch News, Reviews & Chat
Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 685! Live from the Montblanc booth at Watches and Wonders Geneva, for a fast-paced yet deeply technical walkthrough of Montblanc’s 2025 novelties.
We fully recommend you click here to read along and see the photos in our show notes as you listen – http://www.scottishwatches.co.uk/2025/06/24/scottish-watches-podcast-685-we-go-live-on-air-with-montblanc/
hey kick off with the new Iced Sea diver, now featuring a distressed steel case and a unique “Gratté Boisé” glacier dial. This year also marks the expansion of Montblanc’s zero-oxygen technology, now offered as a retrofit during servicing on certain previous editions. The Deep 4810 dive watch resurfaces with a new titanium bracelet and a stunning laser-etched caseback evoking the view beneath glacial ice. From there, they pivot to Montblanc’s heritage with the Nicolas Rieussec monopusher chronograph—an homage to the 19th-century inventor of the ink-dropping chronograph—before moving into Minerva territory with the debut of a hand-assembled annual calendar GMT featuring a sapphire worldtime disc, big date, and the historically significant “Minerva July” month display.
Rounding out the presentation are two showpieces: a new split-second chronograph with eccentric moon hands and German silver bridges, and as a final surprise, Montblanc reveals a worldtimer tourbillon inspired by Around the World in 80 Days, complete with enamel miniatures, blued hands, and a storybook caseback. Equal parts showmanship and substance, this session underscores Montblanc’s growing credibility in both tool watch innovation and high horology.

Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 684! In this episode of the Scottish Watches podcast, Ricky and Dave wade into a tidal wave of new releases, from Tudor’s surprise drop—the Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue”—to Seiko’s bold Jaws-inspired Turtle diver. They kick things off with a dive into the increasingly frequent launches from Tudor, offering firsthand impressions of the BB54’s blue dial and surprisingly wearable 37mm case. The duo delves into the nuances of its polished bezel, slim profile, and COSC-certified MT5400 movement, all while debating the merits of snowflake hands and bracelet choices. We surge through the latest global drops, including Seiko’s commemorative Jaws edition, Casio’s first-ever mechanical watch (yes, with a Seiko NH35 inside), and the unexpected revival of Al Capone’s Patek Philippe pocket watch—now owned by a UK retailer. Also in the spotlight: Czapek’s glow-in-the-dark Antarctique “Revelation Spectrum,” a wild 488-lume-element Colloquim Project 01, and Rado’s fruity Anatom collection.

Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 683! Welcome back to the Scottish Watches Podcast! In this episode, we’re joined by our longtime friend Rob Nudds—watchmaker, writer, brand guru, and all-around industry insider—for a deep dive into the wild world of Arcanaut. From the mad science of Black Badger’s experimental materials to the hand-delivered Fordite dial watch that nearly brought a tear to Rikki’s eye, this conversation spans it all. Rob walks us through Arcanaut’s evolution, shares behind-the-scenes stories from Watches & Wonders, teases upcoming drops, and even reveals how a fake fairy tale about a gemstone goblin became part of their brand mythos.

Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 682! In this episode of the Scottish Watches podcast, we bring together our extended international team for a long-overdue catch-up. Misael and Philologus, who, while usually behind the scenes, have been instrumental in shaping everything from our show notes to our online presence.
Miz, who originally reached out to us as a teenager with full show notes already written, has grown into a vital part of the team and is involved not only in content but also in the watch industry itself, working closely with brands like Horage and Isotope, representing them at events like Wind-Up and Intersect, and even handling concierge services.
Philologus, joining us from Singapore, is one of the key figures behind our editorial efforts, coordinating articles, collaborating with contributors, and ensuring the site is filled with fresh, thoughtful content. We cover everything from their personal watch journeys and standout releases of the past year, to what it’s like working behind the scenes at Scottish Watches, and the broader indie watch scene that’s been quietly growing through genuine community connections.

MB&F surprises with a clean, minimalist design that represents a significant shift from their usual style. Irish independent brand McGonigle’s new Ogma watch sold out before anyone saw the final product. We dig into rumors about the next James Bond, sparked by Omega’s new brand ambassador, and give our honest take on the latest Mission Impossible film. There’s also a look at Formex’s new Gen II Field Automatics, a retro racing-inspired launch from Breitling, and a quick dive into how AI is changing everything from media to watch design.

Welcome to the Scottish Watches Podcast episode 676! In this episode, we kick things off with the quietly executed return of Omega’s Railmaster, discussing its legacy, design tweaks, gradient dials, and why beige might still be a dirty word in horology. From there, it’s a headlong plunge into the weird and wonderful with the unexpected Crocs x G-Shock collaboration. This glow-in-the-dark mashup sparks confusion, laughter, and outright sartorial horror. Things then take a historic twist with the tale of Al Capone’s diamond-studded Patek Philippe pocket watch going up for auction and a side debate on why people are obsessed with owning relics of notorious criminals. Oh, and George Bamford’s back in the mix with a bold new collab that just might be one of GP’s best modern releases!
