2019 is already has more than 110,000 cases of measles, which is three times more than last year at the same time. The measles virus is a very infectious disease, but it was once thought to be eradicated from America. But with lower rates of vaccination in certain areas, the disease is coming back.
Shokuhara in schools
April is the beginning of school year in Japan and there is a new movement to hit twitter: Shokuhara or forced eating. There have been several incidents of kids at Japanese schools being forced to finish their lunch against their will. In some cases the kids ate until they threw up. Others, the kids came down with stress, depression and other serious symptoms.
Old guy has a fatal car accident
An 87 year old driver panics and accidentally hits the gas petal thinking it was the breaks. Unable to stop, he runs into several pedestrians injuring eight and killing a mother and daughter. Only after slamming into a truck did the car come to a stop. Police haven’t found any health problems or reasons why the driver might have acted this way. The general public opinion is, it was a grave and fatal mistake.
Notre Dame Fire
The 850 year old cathedral, the Notre Dame, caught fire destroying the roof and damaging most of the building. The cathedral was a beloved historical spot and tourist attraction in France. With in hours of the news spreading, wealthy people in France began to donate. 100 million Euros, 200 million Euros, followed by another 200 million euros. Everyone from Louis Vuitton and L’Oreal to Apple rushed to donate. This came with a backlash from the Yellow Vest movement, which has been protesting for the working people against the financial gap between the rich and the poor since last year.
Chinese Scientist implant Human Brain genes into Monkey
Chinese scientist once again push ethical boundaries with more gene-editing. This time they have implanted human genes into Monkey’s Brains.The experiment is an attempt to further understand brain development and evolution, by giving monkey’s some of our genes. With 6 of 11 monkeys already dead, the experiment has mainly been considered bad science with no clear objective.
Blackhole Photo
Scientist have created history by taking the first ever actual photo of a black hole. The photograph shows gas and flames circling the black hole as they get sucked in. The photograph was a joint project by scientist in many different countries to essentially creating a planet sized telescope to shoot the image.
