Cliché or not, most of us start each January wanting to get a bit fitter and lose some of that Christmas weight. Another cliché – by the end of the month lots of us will have given up and gone back to our old ways. So how do we make things different this year? Getting and staying fit for life is the dream, and in this episode we are joined by Eastnine personal trainer Ania Gabb, who talks honestly and shares her insights and experience of nearly two decades in the business with us. Ania talks to us about how to find what works for you and the all-important but often forgotten role of fitness nutrition.

Did you know there are 34 possible menopause symptoms? Or that at any one time 13 million women in the UK are going through menopause? In this special episode of the Healthy podcast, brought to you in association with Holland & Barrett, Ellie is joined by Meg Mathews, who has long moved on from her rock chick days to become something of an ambassador for how to have a positive menopause. Menopause hit Meg hard, and more than that, it took her a long time to work out that the various different symptoms she was suffering from were caused by menopause. Inspired by her own experiences, she now has a website, a product range and a new book, The New Hot: Navigating the Menopause with Attitude and Style, helping other women to be more empowered when it comes to their own menopause. In this honest and open podcast, she will help you take on the menopause, make the right choices for you and keep your sense of self, style and humour intact.

A conversation with journalist Amy, who suffers from anxiety and depression, and has found an usual solution to help her cope – track cycling
Journalist Amy Sedghi has struggled with her mental health since her teenage years. Here, in a frank and open conversation with Ellie, she talks about the different techniques she has used to help her manage her anxiety and depression.
When Amy decided to check out the local velodrome during a visit to her parents, something clicked – even though she spent most of the session on the flat bit in the middle. Over the intervening years, Amy’s confidence and love for cycling has grown – and it’s become a tremendous help in how she manages her anxiety. She explains how this usual method works for her, why everyone should try track cycling and how her own local velodrome, Herne Hill, is a fantastic, welcoming place for women (and men) at all levels.
Find out more about Herne Hill velodrome on their website, hernehillvelodrome.com

A conversation with journalist and author Gabrielle Jackson about her new book Pain and Prejudice: A Call To Arms for Women and their Bodies
Having suffered from the chronic pain condition, endometriosis for 14 years, Gabrielle started to wonder why we – and her doctors – still knew so little about it. This lead her into an in-depth investigation into the topic which concluded that medicine systematically ignores or sidelines women – who are by far the most common sufferers of chronic pain conditions, and the worrying realisation that “almost everything we know about human biology comes from the study of men”.
On the podcast, Gabrielle talks about her own experience and discoveries – and why she is calling women to arms. If you want to read her article check out the February 2020 edition of Healthy magazine which you can pick up in your local Holland & Barrett store, and on selected newstands across the country.

How to survive Christmas without getting a divorce (AND how to get a good divorce if you don’t)
The first Monday in January when we’re back to work after Christmas is famously known as ‘Divorce Day’ because it traditionally sees us make a record number of enquires with divorce lawyers. This episode looks at how to Christmas-proof your relationship. Seasonal stresses can lead to more arguments with your partner than usual, so how can we try to avoid that this year? If things do regrettably get to a point where you’re considering a divorce, how can this be done with kindness? And if you’re facing your first Christmas alone post-divorce, how can you ‘paint this brighter’?
Our guest, The Divorce Coach Sara Davison, is the best-selling author of two self-help books including Uncoupling: How to survive and thrive after break-up and divorce. She shares her many years of experience with Ellie, offering advice on how to deal with Christmas arguments and pressure, what to think about if you’re thinking about divorce, and how to enjoy Christmas if you’re newly single. You can find out more about Sara at saradavison.com

‘Low carb’, ‘plant-based’, ‘gut microbiome’, ‘sugar-free’… these are amongst the most popular buzz terms in nutrition right now, but what do they actually mean? Are they backed up by nutritional science and should you be tailoring your diet accordingly?
Our guest, nutritionist Carrie Ruxton, helps Ellie to set the science straight on these trends and more, busting the biggest myths in nutrition and helping us to achieve a simple, do-able, healthy diet.
As well as reviewing all the nutrition content in Healthy, Carrie is an award-winning dietitian, TV nutritionist and writer. Carrie has a PhD in Child Nutrition and runs her own consultancy, Nutrition Communications, in St Andrews. Find out more about Carrie at nutrition-communications.co.uk
