We're winding down on 2024, folks, and this may be our last review before we get to that coveted "Best Of" episode we all look forward to! In the mean time, our friends at the University of Kentucky asked us to check out their NIL Club Blue bourbons to let you know how good they are and give our tasting notes so that you knew what you should expect when you pick up a bottle or two this season. We're taking a break from a major review this week to take a look at one of our favorite rye whiskeys and ask the age old question, "what's the best way to drink it?" Perry and Eric put Old Forester Rye through the paces of neat, a splash of water, on the rock(s), and in cola to determine just how you should be drinking your daily, affordable drinker. It's no secret that we, and the bourbon community at large, are massive fans of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. It's not often that we're able to taste expressions from the fabled series, but this year, Perry and Eric were lucky enough to taste not one, but TWO bourbons included in the lineup. Perhaps the two most coveted in BTAC, William Larue Weller and George T. Stagg bourbons are as rare and as coveted as bourbons get these days. But, how do their 2024 iterations hold up? It never ceases to amaze me how similar collectors are across all mediums and spaces and scenes. From cars to baseball cards to comic books, everybody's hobby is driven by one thing: exclusivity. But the line between bourbon and shoe collectors is often so blurred that the Venn diagram at times looks more like a circle.
