The Battle of Jakku -- Insurgency Rising mini-series concludes with its fourth and final issue, yet sets up the next four-issue tale -- Republic Under Seige -- quite nicely. So far the only thing that's left us baffled is simply this: Who is that Azanti on the covers of issues 2 and 3?

In Ahsoka #5, the fifth episode of the Disney+ show is adapted quite well, yet offers no deleted scenes or context.

• Star Wars (Vol. 3) #48

News: 

• Charles Soule and Luke Ross will debut the ongoing Legacy of Vader from Marvel that focuses on Kylo Ren. First issue is due out Feb. 5.
• Marvel's January solicits are due out later this week, as are Dark Horse's March solicits.
• The Dark Horse Star Wars comics panel on Saturday at NYCC brought news that Ethan Sacks is writing a Poe Dameron comic that's set before the events of The Force Awakens that sees the pilot on a secret mission. So secret that Sacks would say no more.
• Alyssa Wong is penning a The High Republic Adventures Phase III one-shot that centers on the effects of and fallout from the upcoming battle of Eriadu that's about to unspool through issue #17 of The High Republic Adventures Phase III.
• Writers also broke down some of the elements of Jan. 22's THRA Annual 2025, with Scott's story focused on Baron Boolan, Justina Ireland's is about Vernestra Rwoh (including a Stellan Gios flashback), while Wong says they've written about Driggit Parse teaming up with a teen to take down the Nihil.
• Cavan Scott said he is writing another halloween-inspired comic, while Michael Siglain says the guest-star villain of January's start of the five-issue The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents will be revealed shortly.
• With regard to the Mace Windu and Grievous graphic novels announced at NYCC today, it's worth noting these aren't new. Dark Horse noted back in October 2023 at NYCC that they were among the characters slated to get such books in the Hyperspace Stories graphic novel line through 2024, led by Qui-Gon, which was initially set to publish in July 2024. It's now due out March 4
• Due out May 20 is Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Phase III Vol. 3, collecting issues 11-13 and the Wedding Spectacular. The 112-page TPB from Dark Horse will retail for $19.99.
• With regard to Friday's Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at NYCC, in terms of Star Wars comics, the series Marc Guggenheim is writing is called Star Wars: Jedi Knights, with each issue a self-contained story. It's set before the events of The Phantom Menace. Featured characters will include Yaddle and a new Jedi who is disabled created expressly for the story. It will also feature the Star Wars equivalent of kaiju
• Charles Soule said he's working on a story about a character he didn't name, but noted that Marvel is working on some "other stuff" that's not yet been revealed or even discussed publicly.

We're taking a step back from our usual coverage of Star Wars comics to interview Bryan Reheil, a writer whose three-issue limited series from Scout Comics -- Milk Run -- debuts on Nov. 27.

It's a great story, set in Philadelphia, about Zack Morgan who can create a portal that takes him as far back as 10 years in the past, something he uses to buy groceries to make ends meet, hence the "milk run" in the title. Yet his life starts to change as he ponders the subject of a true-crime podcast about the murder of two beloved social workers and he realizes he might be able to use his power for good.

Written by Reheil, with art by Jarret Katz, colors by Robert Nugent, letters and design by Rob Jones and edited by James B. Emmett, it's a story that brings to mind time-traveling adventure akin to "Minority Report" and even "Back to the Future." We've read the first issue and, no lie, we're clamoring for the second one.

The issue has two covers -- one by Katz and one by Laura Helsby -- and can be ordered at your comic shop, via Previews World or directly from Scout Comics.

The now-victorious Rebel Alliance is putting together a team of operatives to try and figure out how to neutralize Moff Adelhard, while Luke Skywalker quests for a key Jedi relic that fans of the video game Star Wars: Battlefront II might be familiar with. Oh, if you're a fan of the Star Wars: Resistance TV show, The Battle of Jakku -- Insurgency RIsing #2 (of 4) is for you.

The post-Original Trilogy era takes root in Marvel's Star Wars comics this week with the launch of the 12-issue The Battle of Jakku maxi-series, a sprawling run that's poised to bridge the gap between the just concluded Star Wars and Darth Vader runs with whatever's due to come out in February, and does so in a dramatic, if not menacing fashion.

Insurgency Rising #1 (of 4) sets up twain stories in the immediate aftermath of the second Death Star's destruction, bringing to comics key figures from the Aftermath trilogy of novels, the 2015 Star Wars Uprising mobile game and legacy characters like Leia and Luke, with readers poised to learn the events leading up to the fateful final fight over Jakku.

It's been a longtime coming, this new story. Based on the first issue, it's poised to deliver.

Star Wars: Inquisitors concludes its four-issue run with a story that balances the premonition of knowing when to sacrifice a dream but doing so with a sense of accomplishment in a lushly illustrated tale that spans from Order 66 to the height of the Inquisitorius.

• Based on Dark Horse Comics' January solicits, The High Republic Adventures is set to come to an end with issue #17 in April and seemingly confirmed by Daniel José Older on Twitter.
• The Bad Batch is returning ... to the comics! The five-issue mini-series is set to start in January from Dark Horse and will be set during the Clone Wars.
• The High Republic Adventures will get a 2025 annual that's due out on Jan. 22.

Marvel brings the Original Trilogy era run of Star Wars comics to an end in the pages of Darth Vader (Vol. 3) #50, a weighty issue that not only ties up the recent storyline, but sets some key characters up for the future, particularly Sabé, as readers realize just how much of a hold Palpatine still has over Anakin Skywalker.

In Dark Horse Comics' The HIgh Republic Adventures Phase III #10, Sevran Tarkin takes a bold step in reclaiming not just her legacy, but her life, in a rousing story that leaves us feeling good inside, further evidence of just how good this series has been, is and will be.

The Original Trilogy era of Marvel's Star Wars begins it's two-part ending, with the release of Star Wars (Vol. 3) #50, a sprawling yet tight meditation on what it takes to ensure victory and the lengths that some will consider going to attain it. Writer Charles Soule concludes his 50-issue run -- an accomplishment in its own right -- that sets the stage for Darth Vader (Vol. 3) #50 next week.

Inquisitors #3 (of 4) sees Tensu Run not only realize the shortcomings of the Jedi Order, yet strive to build upon them for a better future in a deftly crafted story.

• Condolences to the family of James Earl Jones. The legendary actor who voiced Darth Vader died this week. He was 93.
• Condolences to the family of artist John Cassaday. The comic artist and co-creator of Wildstorm's "Planetary" died. He was 52. Cassaday illustrated Star Wars (Vol. 2) 1-6 and helped inaugurate Marvel's return to the property back in 2015.
• The solicit and covers for Star Wars: The Battle of Jakuu -- Republic Under Seige #3 (of 4) that's due out Dec. 4. Main cover is by Taurin Clarke while the variant is by Leinil Francis Yu and Romulo Fajardo Jr. The mini-series is written by Alex Segura and illustrated by Stefano Raffaele.
• Artist E.M. Gist's covers for The Battle of Jakku -- Last Stand 1-4 are on the Facebook page.
