Larry is a retired Illinois State Police officer and an avid martial artist with a strong competitive background. He owns Point Driven Training and is an instructor in the Shivworks collective. The in this week’s show we talk with Jon Hauptman of PHLster Holsters about how he is able to bring innovative new holsters to the market that solve problems that the average concealed carry holder faces and how they can solve those problems with PHLSTER.
Jon is the owner of PHLster Holsters and has a background as an ASCE Certified Mechanic. He also has a degree in fine arts. Jon used his skills as a mechanic and an artist to modify holsters so that they more readily accomplished the task of safely, securely and comfortably concealing his handgun. Those holsters still didn’t quite fit the bill. As Jon explored the holsters that were more capable he found that his next obstacle was the wait time associated with the holsters that were seen as the “best.”
Jon decided that his skills gave him everything he needed to learn how to build a quality holster in less time than it would take to wait for someone else to do it for him.
That was the beginning of PHLster.

This episode’s guest is Claude Werner. Claude is known in the firearms training industry as the Tactical Professor and focuses on the firearms industry from a different angle than most other personal protection educators.
Like many of his peers, Claude has a background in the military, however, this background was focused on military intelligence. After his time in the Military Claude had an executive career in the private sector, first in commercial real estate followed by a director level position in a big 5 accounting firm.
What these three different life experiences have in common is decision making based on large amounts of data. Claude has successfully transitioned the same skills he used in military intelligence, commercial real estate and accounting to educating his clients in firearms and personal protection related topics.

Who is Dr. William Aprill?William Aprill is a licensed mental health professional with over 15 years experience across the continuum of care. He presently maintains a private practice and consultancy specializing in post-traumatic interventions and other disciplines.
William is a former deputy sheriff (Orleans Parish, LA, Criminal Sheriff’s Office) and Special Deputy US Marshal (Eastern District of Louisiana). He is a decorated competitive shooter and has taught civilian, law enforcement, and military personnel in various fighting skills since 1990.
William maintains an active schedule both as student and teacher, having been instructor-rated by several top-tier trainers and studying under many of the most influential members of the combative arts community.
Under the auspices of Aprill Risk Consulting, William has presented his material on violent criminals and their decision-making, defensive incident aftermath, mindset development and defensive preparedness locally and nationally, including at the Annual Conference of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI), Rangemaster Tactical Conference, Tactical Response Alumni Weekend, and at Paul-E-Palooza, the memorial conference and fundraiser for the family of the late Paul Gomez.
