Dr. Sanjay Gupta is on the podcast today! And it's true that he practically needs no introduction, but I'll go ahead and introduce him anyway ;)
I'm very excited to share this interview with Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Yep, if that name sounds familiar, that's because you definitely know him. Dr. Gupta is the multiple Emmy-award winning chief medical correspondent for CNN. He's a practicing neurosurgeon & is a staple on CNN to report on health and medical news for all of their shows domestically and internationally. And Dr. Gupta's most recent series with CNN is called Chasing Life. “Chasing Life” is a six-part series where Sanjay shares the secrets he’s learned to living a longer, healthier life through his travels for this show. He heads to Bolivia, Japan, Turkey, India, Italy and Norway, to explore the sometimes peculiar traditions and modern practices used to fight disease, manage stress, and attain happiness.
I talk with Dr. Gupta about all kinds of topics:
- How we can improve our longevity
- How to combat the appeal of junk food
- The correlation between longevity and equal treatment of women
- Common habits Americans share with these cultures who seem to have a good balance
- And I even got him to tell me what his biggest indulgence would be if all food was healthy and there was no such thing as disease...
- We talk about all that & so much more in today's episode. So, sit back, enjoy, & don't forget to check out Chasing Life on CNN with Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
Enjoy!
Jessamyn Stanley is our guest today!
Fun fact: this is the first episode I recorded as a MOM. That fact is totally irrelevant to today's episode, but still a fun little side track. If you're new around here, I just had a baby 6 weeks ago & his name is Theo... my husband ended up taking him out for a walk while I had this interview which is also the first time I do an official "work" thing since his birth. Time flies, I'm telling you...
Speaking of getting back to work, what an easy, warm welcome I had back with this interview with Jessamyn Stanley who is SO lovely I can't even tell you... If you don't know who she is, lemme give you some background. Jessamyn's a yogi who breaks all the stereotypes, has built a life as an internationally recognized yoga teacher and award-winning Instagram star by combining a deep understanding for yoga with a willingness to share her personal struggles in a way that touches everyone who comes to know her.
She got dragged to a yoga class by her Aunt, hated it, then ended up revisiting & falling in love with it later on.
We talk about a whole range of things:
- A little about her yoga journey
- How we feel about our egos being yogis and businesswomen
- How she stays inspired to remain authentic on social media
- And yes, even that infamous Yoga Journal cover incident
Enjoy!
For more from Jessamyn, follow her on Instagram & learn more about her monthly yoga subscription, book, and where she teaches on her website.

For some context, John is a licensed therapist, published author, speaker, and life coach. But he started a blog called The Angry Therapist as a place to be himself without a filter while he was going through a divorce. It turned into something people really resonated with because typically people don't see therapists as real people with real feelings. He didn't want to be that guy. He blogged about his shortcomings, revelations, and his views on relationships, the self help business, and the world. He found CrossFit, bought a motorcycle, and started coaching people in unconventional ways.
I don't know if you've noticed this, but therapists are having a moment on Instagram. And when I was looking for an interesting person in this field to bring on to talk about important issues, I found a lot of people, but not a lot of INTERESTING people... then I found John and I was like OH! THIS is our guy!
He's a lot more transparent than traditional therapists and doesn't put himself on a pedestal at all. We had a really interesting chat about relationships and after changing gears, how to build your purpose in life.
It's a great show & I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
To find out more from John, follow him on Instagram @theangrytherapist and head to his website for more about his books, podcast, and services.

I started following her a couple months ago for her super fun facts about birth & pregnancy. I LOVED her stuff on Instagram & later learned she had this course called Birth It Up which preps you for a natural delivery in a hospital. This was my intention going into birth, so I got the course (which is INSANELY affordable, BTW), LOVED it, & knew I had to have her on the podcast.
I bought the course with my own money and she had no idea who I was. I reached out to her to introduce myself & invite her on and that was that, so all opinions are truly my own.
But a little more about Liesel... She's a labor and delivery nurse from North Carolina, and her page is dedicated to educating moms-to-be about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and motherhood! She uses her knowledge as a labor and delivery nurse (and as a fellow mom herself) to spread awareness and help mamas understand what’s to come.
Whether you're currently pregnant, want to get pregnant soon or someday in the distant future, are the partner to someone who qualifies as either of those things, OR you're just fascinated by the magic of our bodies and want to learn more, this episode is for YOU.
That's enough outta me-- let's turn it over to Liesel.
Follow Liesel on Instagram for all her free tips too.
