    448. Big Pond: a relaxing story and meditation

Dylan the duck wants a place to swim. His friend Zara is eager to help him. What will she do?

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Big Pond,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 8:50

    Big Pond Excerpt:

Zara the kitten napped in the sunlight with her friend Dylan the duck. The cozy warmth of her sunny spot caused the little kitten to purr. As she relaxed a cloud drifted across the sky, covering the sun for just a moment. With that interruption, Zara sat up and Dylan quacked. It was a good time to get up. The little kitten hopped off the couch and waited while Dylan waddled his way down to the floor. Zara felt thirsty so she hurried to her water fountain for a drink. As she did, Dylan waddled over and started to step into Zara’s water.

Zara meowed and moved quickly, so that her friend would not be able to wade in her dish. Dylan quacked at her. He needed to swim. The little kitten understood her friend needed water, but she did not want stinky feet in her drink. She thought a minute about how to help her friend. Then she smiled as an idea filled her head.

Today’s Meditation: Feel your body fill with warmth and love as you send your loving energy to the world.

    890. Sharing Ideas: a kids’ relaxation and calming tale

Rogelio, Helen and Brianna are excited to share their own ideas. It can be difficult to wait and listen. What will they do?

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:31

    Sharing Ideas Excerpt:

Under the wide, spreading branches of a great oak tree in the park, Helen waited for her friends to arrive. She, Brianna, and Rogelio had been working on making a play to put on for their families and friends.  They’d already decided on the story and found the perfect place to perform, and they’d been practicing a lot!  Now, the three friends needed to decide on costumes, props, and scenery.  Helen could hardly wait to share her ideas.

As Helen watched a few leaves drift down from the tree’s branches, she heard voices approaching.

“Hi, Helen!” called Rogelio.  He waved as he and Brianna walked up to meet Helen. Both friends looked full of excitement.

Today’s Meditation: Imagine that you are a graceful willow tree in today’s meditation.

    889. Otter Odyssey: a calming meditation and kid’s story

Izzie Sea Otter meets some kind humans who help her feel strong and healthy again.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:47

    Otter Odyssey Excerpt:

The morning sun rose over the Ahway Island cove, making a ribbon of light that reflected from the horizon to the shore. Brilliant orange stretched across the sky, mixing with the blue of the waves, while wispy clouds above turned pink in the early light. On any other morning, Izzie sea otter would have paused to admire the beautiful colors before diving into the sea to search for breakfast. Today, however, the little otter felt too sick to appreciate the sunrise.

Izzie’s mouth had been hurting for the past few days, which made it hard to eat. She felt tired, hot, and hungry, but she didn’t have the energy to dive for food. So, Izzie had found a nice place to curl up on the beach, hoping a bit of rest might help her feel better. Every now and then, gentle waves splashed against the shore, cooling her warm body.  Izzie closed her eyes, tucked her nose into her fur, and tried to relax.

Today’s Meditation: Relax as you imagine sunlight warming you as you lie in a grassy meadow.

    447. A Sea of Snow: a story and meditation for your bedtime routine

The world is covered in a beautiful a sea of snow. Shannon the Shovel and Stanley Snow Blower need to help clear the snow so that it’s safe for people to walk!

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “A Sea of Snow,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 11:04

    A Sea of Snow Excerpt:

It was a crisp and cold winter morning. It had snowed heavily the night before, but the morning breeze allowed the sun to peak through the
clouds. A heavy, thick blanket of fresh snow draped across the yards, driveways, and sidewalks of the neighborhood, hugging each and every house. The morning sun, streaming through gaps in the clouds, cast beams of light onto the snow below, making it sparkle like a magical sea. The sea of snow was a beautiful site, with frozen swells over bushes, chairs and any other small items that had been left outside. It really seemed a shame to disturb the snow sea. But the snow was deep and difficult to move through, and there were people and animals who had places to go! The snow needed to be cleared.

Today’s Meditation: Feel calm and relaxed as you send kind energy to your heart.

    888. Helpful Dragon: a soothing story and children’s meditation

Dragon helps Chelsea Chipmunk prepare for a big change in her life.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:38

    Helpful Dragon Excerpt:

It was morning on Ahway Island. Brilliant sparkles of sunlight erupted through the tree branches. Overhead, a cacophony of birds called to one another in a variety of tweets and chirps. A few days ago, thunderstorms had exploded overhead and drenched the land, but today everything was calm and peaceful.

Dragon lumbered down the path in the Ahway Island Forest, enjoying a lovely walk. Dragon especially enjoyed observing the world during forest walks. The azure-blue sky peeked through the tree canopy. A fresh breeze created a swishing sound as it rustled through the bushes and trees. Dragon paused in a pool of sunlight beaming through a bigger opening in the canopy.  Turning head up and closing eyes, Dragon relaxed at the comforting feeling of sunlight on their face. They took a deep Dragon Breath, in and out.  The air smelled fresh and clean as a crisp piney scent permeated with hints of wildflowers.

Today’s Meditation: Picture floating in the safe and comforting waters of a tranquil pool.

Ellie the excavator slowly awoke as the sun peeked through the bottom of the garage door.  She smiled, already feeling excited for the day’s work. She had a feeling that today’s project would be an important one.

The garage door rolled up and away, and Ellie eased on out, guided by her driver. Ellie’s friends were already gathered outside the garage. 446. Wobbly Wheelbarrow: a soothing relaxation and bedtime story

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Wobbly Wheelbarrow,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 11:04

    Wobbly Wheelbarrow Excerpt:

A flicker of light rolled through the opening below the red shed doors. The little wheelbarrow smiled as light traveled up, up, up, between the doors, finally spilling through the window. It was morning! Wanda the wheelbarrow loved watching the sunrise. She wondered what she might do today. Would she help a new tree find a home? Would she help make a new bed for some colorful flowers? Maybe she would help make a garden. Her mind raced with the possibilities. She needed to calm herself, so Wanda took a deep dragon breath, in and out. That felt better. The little wheelbarrow felt a bit calmer. Then she heard the doors squeak. Someone was coming! The little orange wheelbarrow could hardly wait for the door to open. Sunshine flooded into the shed. As Wanda grew accustomed to the light, she noticed a little boy and girl standing there.

    886. Cloudy Days: a meditation and story for bedtime

Joe helps cheer up his sister Theresa on a cloudy day.

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 3:31

    Cloudy Days Excerpt:

It was a cool autumn afternoon on Ahway Island. A soft blanket of gray clouds drifted across the sky. Gentle sunbeams peeked through from time to time. The air had been growing crisper each day, and in the early morning, the chill would turn the dew into a delicate frost that sparkled on the bushes and grass. Most of the trees had already let go of their colorful leaves, leaving the branches bare and the ground covered in a cozy carpet of red, yellow, and brown.

Joe and Theresa had just finished helping their parents with the yard work.  They had raked and blown all the remaining leaves into a big pile in front of the curb. Now, the family’s chores were done, and the lawn looked neat and tidy.  After all the raking, the cool autumn breeze felt wonderful on Joe’s face.

    885. Tranquil Tent: a meditation and calming bedtime story

Tyra the tent helps some students calm down so they are ready for the day.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 3:55

    Tranquil Tent Excerpt:

Rain drummed on the roof of the school as the all the little kids shuffled into their classroom. The room was full of vibrant colors.  There were bright posters on the walls showing letters, numbers, and words like “You Can Do It!” and “Be Kind to Others.” The reading corner had big windows, and soft blue and green bean bags sat of the floor, ready for kids to snuggle up with a cozy book.

By the reading corner, next to the big shelves of books, stood a multicolored tent named Tyra.  The little tent looked out at the classroom with a proud smile. Tyra was there to help if the kids needed a quiet place to calm down and regulate their feelings, so they could get ready to have fun and learn with all the activities of the day. As the children came into the classroom, Tyra watched them with excitement, wondering who might need her help today.

    445. Arctic Antics: a relaxation and story for your naptime routine

Princely Penguin enjoys the beauty of the arctic world by sliding down snow drifts with his friends.

Hello everyone!  We hope you enjoyed our new stories this week. Now, welcome to Favorite Friday! Sometimes we like to listen to our favorites again. Please enjoy “Arctic Antics,” and we’ll be back with a new story on Monday!

    Narrator: Female

    Story Begins: 8:57

    Arctic Antics Excerpt:

It was a breathtakingly beautiful scene. The sections of the sea that were not frozen solid were a deep, inky blue. Snow and ice covered the land and the frozen parts of the sea in sparkling white. The glaciers in the distance, though also blindingly bright, had veins of deep blue ice running through their frozen masses of icy white. The blue ice in the glaciers matched the brilliant blue of the cloudless sky. Although the sun shone its brightest, it could not melt the parts of the sea that had been frozen over for many months. Instead, the sunbeams caused the ice to sparkle as if it were made of diamonds and crystals.

    884. Lion’s Leap: a relaxing meditation and kid’s story

Thirsty but afraid of the water, Lashawn Lion cautiously approaches the pool where Hettie Hippo is playing.

    Narrator: Male

    Story Begins: 4:13

    Lion’s Leap Excerpt:

On a sunny afternoon in the Ahway Island Animal Sanctuary, the land warmed under a clear blue sky. Down by the water, Hettie Hippo was happily splashing in her usual pool.  Nearby, Lashawn Lion stretched out on the dry ground beneath the shade of a tree.

Lashawn yawned and blinked his sleepy eyes open. The warm air made his fur feel toasty, but his mouth felt sticky and dry. Lashawn licked his lips and stretched his paws out in front of him, feeling the dry earth beneath him. “I’m thirsty,” he thought to himself, noticing how the heat made his throat feel scratchy.

Today’s Meditation: Imagine drawing gentle shapes in the soothing sand as you relax before today’s story.

Creating the original bedtime stories and art for Be Calm on Ahway Island takes a lot of time and care.
