Moments after being awarded the Architects Medallion at a ceremony held at the NSW Architects Registration Board, we sat down Eric Ye to talk about his ideas, aspirations and practice. Re-lifing apartment buildings. A co-design model emerges.
What happens when privately-owned apartment buildings need upgrade? Multiple owners - all with their own ideas - can mean it's easier to sell and move, rather than refurbish. But two Sydney researchers want to change that - and give architects and homeowners the tools they need to co-design a new life for old apartment buildings. We sat down with UNSW's Dr Hazel Easthope and University of Sydney's Dr Sandra Loschke to unpack their vision for a more participatory and sustainable approach to apartment redevelopment - research which is being supported by the NSW ARB.
