Shingon is one of the oldest schools of Buddhism in Japan. Widely practices in Japan, it is little known outside the country. While there are temples in Hawaii, and the West Coast of the USA, Shingon remains largely unknown. "Shingon" the Japanese pronunciation of "mantra" is a school that emphasizes mantra recitation, visualization in mediation, and ritual practice. Shingon and Tibetan Buddhism share many similarities.
