Brent Axe breaks down Syracuse basketball's 85-61 loss to Louisville at the JMA Dome.
Louisville completely shut down SU guard JJ Starling, who was held to four points on 1-of-7 shooting. The Orange really didn't have a Plan B on offense with Starling out of the mix and Donnie Freeman still absent from the lineup with a leg injury.
SU's defense wasn't much better as the Cardinals hit 12 3-pointers on the Orange with most of those coming from Chucky Hepburn, who had 24 points.
Brent also discussed the vibe (or lack there of) in the Dome with a listed crowd of 19,750 certainly being inflated.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on SU’s loss to Louisville.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 79-71 win over Boston College.
The Orange used a late 22-6 run and were clutch at the free throw line down the stretch to earn its first road win of the season.
JJ Starling was one of first Syracuse players in double figures with 26 points. Eddie Lampkin added 10 points and 13 rebounds. Kyle Cuffe gave SU a major lift off the bench in the second half, including two clutch 3-pointers.
Brent also discusses how Adrian Autry needs to flip his starting lineup to JJ Starling, Cuffe, Eddie Lampkin, Jyare Davis (if Donnie Freeman is still out with injury) and Lucas Taylor and if Syracuse can "punch up" and beat Louisville on Tuesday night at the JMA Dome.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on SU’s win over BC.

Brent Axe reacts to the news that Syracuse Kyle McCord is moving on to the NFL and will no longer pursue a NCAA waiver for another season of college football.
McCord made a massive impact in one season at Syracuse, leading the nation with 4,779 passing yards. That set a Syracuse and ACC single-season passing mark. McCord also set a Syracuse record with 34 touchdowns in a single season.
With McCord's place on the Mt. Rushmore of Syracuse quarterbacks, Brent has early thoughts on the quarterback competition to replace him. Will Fran Brown look for another quarterback in the transfer portal or will the competition focus on LSU transfer Rickie Collins Jr., sophomore Jakhari Williams and senior Michael Johnson Jr. with freshman Luke Carney and Rich Belin also in the mix.
Brent also discusses the legacy McCord will have that could one day be compared to the impact Carmelo Anthony made on the basketball program as a one-and-done talent.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on McCord's departure and legacy as Syracuse QB.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 62-55 win over Georgia Tech at the JMA Dome on Tuesday night.
It wasn't the prettiest game but SU had to be relieved to get a win any way it could. Brent discusses SU's keys to victory including JJ Starling's 21 points and how he has made a significant difference in the lineup since returning from a hand injury.
Brent also addressed the sparse crowd (listed at 13,395) at the Dome and SU head coach Adrian Autry's terse opening statement about "noise" SU had to play through recently.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the win and where Syracuse basketball stands entering league play.

Brent Axe chats live following Syracuse basketball's 90-74 loss to Florida State on Saturday night in Tallahassee.
The good news for Syracuse was JJ Starling returned to the lineup after missing 7 games with a hand injury and Chris Bell snapped out of a long slump with 18 points (including 4 3's), but SU's poor defense was costly in the loss to the Seminoles.
Brent also discusses how Eric Devendorf missed the mark with his strong defense of Adrian Autry on the ACC Network.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the win and where Syracuse basketball stands entering league play.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 81-71 loss to Wake Forest at the JMA Dome on New Year's Eve.
SU fell to 6-7 (0-2) with top recruit Kiyan Anthony watching courtside. The more SU slides down the hill in the 2024-25, the more fans will start looking ahead to what Anthony's Orange will look like next year. In the meantime, Brent talked about hiw Adrian Autry has to switch up his starting line-up with Chris Bell's sustained struggles. Lucas Taylor and Kyle Cuffe Jr. gave SU a lift off the bench against Wake Forest. Can they be a consistent 1-2 punch for SU into ACC play?
Axe also discussed the main New Year's resolution SU has to make about starting off games better and where some of the inconsistencies on defense and #FreeThrowsMatter need to improve.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the win and where Syracuse basketball stands entering league play.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 75-63 win over Bucknell as SU gets ready to begin its full-time ACC slate.
Brent discussed how SU continued to struggle from the 3-point line, shooting 1-of-11 distance in the 2nd half.
Encouraging signs from the win included Eddie Lampkin (18 pts, 11 rebs) and Donnie Freeman (15 pts, 11 rebs) both scoring double-doubles and SU's switch to using more zone press seemed to light a fuse on the defensive end.
Brent also wonders how Chris Bell can kick things into gear and which of the transfers will have the most success in ACC play.
Brent also got amazing feedback from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the win and where Syracuse basketball stands entering league play.

On the latest episode of Syracuse Sports, Brent Axe envisions a world where SU quarterback Kyle McCord is granted a fifth-year of eligibility and what that would look like for Syracuse football. Brent also navigates through a feeling he's never experienced from Syracuse basketball fans and how they are going to have to grind through the rest of the 2024-25 season.
Brent then brings on syracuse.com's Chris Carlson to discuss the situation with SU football's Holiday Bowl opponent, Washington State. The Cougars have lost over 20 players to the transfer portal, including 12 starters. Will they be able to field a team on December 27 in San Diego? Brent and Chris also discuss the ups and downs of college football's "silly season" with the transfer portal, NIL, recruiting, bowl prep and the College Football Playoff all intertwining.

Brent Axe recaps Syracuse basketball's 75-71 loss to Georgetown on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Dome.
The listed attendance for Saturday's game was 17,18. While the fans that did go to the game were loud and created a great atmosphere for the 100th meeting of SU-Georgetown, that's a concerning number for SU's main rival in a series that routinely used to get 30,000+ into the Dome.
Georgetown ironically used a zone defense, the signature weapon of Jim Boeheim's tenure it had to face for so many years, to flummox the Orange on Saturday afternoon. Eddie Lampkin (18 points) and Jyare Davis (15 points) both had good offensive games inside, but the Orange defense struggled in the paint, get out-scored in that area 48-34.
Brent also discusses the continued struggles of Chris Bell in big games, who had just 3 points for Syracuse, and growing fan concerns about Adrian Autry's coaching methods.
Brent also reacted to thoughts and opinions from Syracuse Sports Insiders on the loss to Georgetown.
