Hardcore history for horror franchises.
This Friday is the 13th, and you know what that means. So does the Halloweenies, which is why the gang has re-assembled at Camp Crystal Lake to take another look at the Friday the 13th franchise. If you recall, the series covered the iconic series way, way back in 2020. Today, however, they're sharpening their machetes by looking at the best kills. All 13 of them.

Listeners, we've got a special treat for you today. Our pals over at What Are We Talking About? managed to conjure up a Hollywood historical moment: getting Keith David and David Keith in the same room. Well, the same Zoom room, at least. The two veteran icons sat down for their first joint interview on the season premiere the podcast series. Hosted by entertainment industry veterans (and longtime pals) Paul Davidson, Benjamin Raab, and Mitch Graham, What Are We Talking About? finds the three pulling one of their own mystery topics from a popcorn bowl and shoot the shit about it. The topic for this episode? John Carpenter. Here's a teaser of the episode. Find the full episode here: wawtacast.com/

Beetlejuice returns this week! To celebrate, the Halloweenies are unlocking their commentary on Tim Burton's 1988 original that they recorded for its 35th anniversary in 2023. So, take a last-minute summer trip out to Winter River, Connecticut, where the gang debates whether or not this is Burton's best movie, revisit first crushes, gush over Danny Elfman's iconic score, argue whether this is Michael Keaton's performance, and, of course, chew on the sequel that may or may not be a bad idea. Strange Darling hits theaters this weekend -- and it's a good one. The latest export from writer-filmmaker J.T. Mollner shuffles an athletic cat-and-mouse story between stars Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner that feels both in and out of time. It's gritty, it's unpredictable, and it's paralyzing, doling out the narrative like a descendent of Tarantino's style.
But this isn't an homage; it's an extension on familiar forms. Today, Halloweenies co-host and executive producer Michael Roffman speaks with the maestro behind the madness to discuss his own filmmaking DNA and how he's been carving his own signature. They also shoot the shit on favorite Westerns and why that genre may be a prism for filmmaking.
Rest assured, there are no spoilers ahead.
