This last few days have been incredible for Trainers! With Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day and DMAX Articuno Max Monday, it has been a wonderland of gameplay options and pretty solid rewards. We kick things off with a recap of our last week of gameplay, from Fashion Week: Taken Over to the current Steeled Resolve. While the calendar is packed with events, that doesn’t mean it is packed with excitement. Carbink… Again!
As January comes to a close, we still have more events to keep us busy. The Lunar New Year Event is on its way and it really doesn't seem to offer much outside of the increased Lucky odds. With a spawn pool that is old and common, this event may be best enjoyed by two Trainers sitting across from each other while knocking out 100 trades over dinner. Ralts Community Day Classic is also this weekend, which means another opportunity to check in at an Ambassador Event or spend a few bucks on some Research.
The big news of the week is the Road to Unova event which is a full month away! The event’s massive blog is loaded with details on everything you can do while working on your Tour Pass progress. Niantic is doing a great job in building up GO Tour as a premier, annual IRL and global event. With so much happening in the event, it will be interesting to see if they squeeze in any additional stuff before the event kicks off.

There are some serious ups and downs to navigate this week, including a very divisive decision by Niantic! We begin with our recap of the last week of gameplay including Fashion Week and Taken Over. With the Giovanni Loop beginning to feel a bit tired, some Trainers will simply get to it when they get to it. Others love the increased TGR action, and the additional gameplay that a Takeover brings. Mega Gallade was last weekend and while Ken was able to Raid heavy in Red Bank, Adam was able to squeeze one in thanks to Mama Tuttle and a few Remote Raiders!
Shadow Ho-Oh is coming this weekend and if that wasn’t big enough news, Niantic has decided to allow Remote Raiders to join in on Shadow Raids. Some on X are calling this a massive win for the Community, while others are calling it a desperate cash grab. We express some real world concerts like IRL Communities losing a few participants and some Trainers looking to do the entire event remote. We will have to follow this topic to see how many Remote Raiders join in the fray. Hopefully IRL Communities won’t see too much attrition!
GO Fest dates and locations have been announced and it is coming to Dirty Jersey! Jersey City will host the US GO Fest this year and we couldn’t be more excited. We take a peak at Liberty State Park, which is our guess of venue, and inappropriately speculate on how this may work. Will we see a City Experience that stretches into NYC? We have so many questions!
January isn’t ready to go quietly into the night, as there are still a handful of events to come during the month’s second half. Steeled Resolve, Lunar New Year, DMAX Legendary Birds, and Gigantamax Kingler are all on their way in the next two weeks. We talk about the slow rollout of new Pokémon, and how lately, they all seem to be behind eggs or Raids. The only thing we know for sure is that January is going to keep us VERY busy, and we didn’t even mention Community Day Classic!
Finally we talk about the Tour Pass and how this could shape the direction for monetization in Pokémon GO. With a free version available to everyone, we should all be excited for additional gameplay loops and of course the rewards. 2 different paid options be available, and all we can do is hope that the rewards will make it all worth it!

2024 is a wrap and this has been an incredible year of Pokémon GO. We saw a slate of new mechanics and features along with an absolutely packed calendar of events. The development of the Community Ambassador program has brought players back outside. Was 2024 the perfect setup for the next 5 years of Pokémon GO? We think so!
We break down the close of the 2024 calendar with a recap of the last week of gameplay. With the events filling every week and weekend of the month, we dig into what makes an event feel worth it, and what could make it feel like filler. With the game asking more and more of its players, are we seeing Trainers decide to opt out of specific events, or does FOMO still have a solid grip on the player base.
As we roll into January, the stage is already set. With the quick New Years event and Charged Embers Hatch Day leading right into Fidough Fetch and Sprigatito Community Day. Combined with Max Mondays, Spotlight Hour and Raid Hour, hardcore Trainers will have their mettle tested if they want to be the best. We just aren’t sure if Trainers are ready for that degree of commitment, when the game is continuously asking them for more time over more days.
We take a stroll down memory lane and look back at the different Seasons of 2024. It started with Timeless Travels and has since brought us a constant flow of new features, Pokémon, events and mechanics. The GO Fest window was absolutely nuts this year, with Global being only one week after NYC. Since then, Wild Area and the release of DMAX/GMAX has fundamentally changed the way we all play. One thing is for certain, playing this game outside and with a group has never been better nor more accessible. Wild Area was definitely the closest to 2016 that this game has felt, and that is VERY promising for the future.

The holiday is wreaking havoc on our schedules! Sorry for the issues with the release schedule, we should be back on track for the new year!
As the first month of the Dual Destiny Season comes to a close, the onslaught of events, specifically those that call for you to play during a small window of time, have packed the schedule making an already busy Holiday Season even busier! We share our feedback on the Holiday Events which after a string of weekend events, led right into the 2 Day Community Day weekend. The pace of the game has been steadfast with no change in pace or signs of slowing down.
The January Content Update has been detailed and the pressure will remain on the engaged Trainer. There may even be a time where some of us will have to decide between playing an event and other life responsibilities. The game is becoming harder and harder to achieve a game/life balance, which during the Holiday Season could put a strain on the home life.
We detail the flurry of events that have already been announced in the days and weeks after Christmas. An Elekid & Magby Hatch Day will close out the month before the New Years Event and the January slate begins to unfold. Three events have already been detailed including Sprigatito Community Day, Fidough Fetch, and Mega Gallade Raid Day. The first month of the year will maintain its place in the difficult game/life balance discussion.

The MAX OUT Season has officially come to a close and should be remembered as one of the best Pokémon GO Seasons ever. The Max Battle System fundamentally changed the daily routines of countless Trainers, with deeper levels of engagement and strategy trickling their way into different mechanics like defending Gyms, trading, and walking Routes. Hats off to MAX OUT!
Dual Destiny is our next Season and it is hitting the ground running in December with a packed slate of content. We revisit the conversation of how demanding this game has become on our calendars, with more and more destination in game events. Pair that with nearly all events having a ticketed component, FOMO is sure to make an appearance at some point this Season.
December weekends are packed with small window events while over arching events span the weekdays. Trainers will have something to do every single weekend in December. Maintaining a game/life balance will be tested this month, and it will be a challenge for some to stave off the burnout. Is there ever a point where too much in game content is too much? We aren’t sure but if there is a month to help us find out it will be this December.
Details on the Unova Tour have dropped which opens the door for a great conversation. We dig into how IRL Communities have more events than ever to build upon for their locals, and how even if a Community wants to host 3 events a YEAR, they have good reason to do so. We are confident that the Max Out Season was a catalyst for getting back to in-person play, and the future is bright for those Trainers that are willing to embrace it and get outside to play.

Wild Area Global is almost here and we have plenty to unpack and dig into. Hopefully everyone in your community has done plenty of Drilbur in preparation of GMAX Toxtricity, and is managing their Max Particles correctly to balance powering one or two of them up. We will get you prepped and ready to go for Wild Area Global, and will touch on some of the issues that Trainers are facing this week.
Into the wild put Toxel behind 10km eggs but the Community seems pretty chill about it, knowing that Toxtricity is just on the horizon. An issue with the event’s Raid ticket however, has Trainers calling Niantic out for some misleading advertising. With a quiet update to the blog, Niantic has flipped on how bonus Raid passes were to be included with the ticket, causing some unrest in the Community. With their credibility being under a microscope, future events that include bonus Raid passes may require some additional explaining on what exactly is included.
We had a few quality of life updates this week starting with increased Pokémon and item storage, which is always welcomed before a major event. Pair that with a Black Friday PokéCoin sale, and Trainers have some pretty good incentive to spend up before the weekend. The big news of the week however was the addition of Raid Attendance being visible from the Friends List, with the ability to jump directly into a Remote Raid without an invite. (NOTE - Since the time of this recording we have learned that this is a temporary test that is scheduled to end after the Wild Area Global event).
WIth the Max Out Season coming to a close, it is fair to say that this has been one of the most action packed Seasons to date. With new visuals, mechanics, and ways to play the game, it has been moving at a fast pace since its first day. The Max Out finale will keep the pressure on, bringing new Pokémon, but also additional tickets to purchase, which also puts the pressure on Trainer’s wallets.

We are only a few weeks away from the conclusion of the Max Out Season, and with a barrage of events behind us, there is still plenty to look forward to. We begin with a recap of the Harvest Festival, Mankey Community Day, and the amazing Food Drives that were part of the event. We also saw the first Community Ambassador Check-In Timed Research which further incentivizes Trainers to visit or create their own Ambassador led events.
Simply Groundbreaking is up next and Dynamax Drilbur is coming along with it. Even as a One-Star Max Battle, this Pokémon will have a profound impact on the PvE meta as Dynamax Excadrill is the lead counter against the Wild Area’s premier boss, Toxtricity! It should be a priority for all Trainers to play during next week’s Max Monday, to stock up on Drilbur and Candy XL. You will want to go into the Wild Area prepped and ready to go!
The Into the Wild event will be our last before the Wild Area, and will keep us very busy as we await the global event. Meetups have been popping up everywhere, including in Rochester, New Hampshire. Anyone in that area is urged to come out to meet Adam and the Tri-City Pokémon Campfire Group for a day of grinding and even a giveaway for a GO Plus+!
The most interesting news of the week comes from just outside of Albany, NY, where local officials are looking to put an end to organized Pokémon GO events in a public park. Even local news stations have picked up the story, and it could have a profound impact on the local Pokémon GO Community. After receiving so many messages about it, I was able to connect with Spencer, the Community lead and creator of a petition to keep Pokémon GO in Crossings Park. We urge EVERYONE to read up on the story and get involved. Let’s support our fellow Trainers!

The second half of the Halloween Event is behind us and it closed out strong with GMAX Gengar. We discuss how the nerfs impacted the community, and whether or not we think they should stick around. Our experiences with Gengar were expectedly different, however Adam shares some glimmers of hope that he has stumbled on in his area.
Next Season’s Save the Date is here and is packed with events, including our two-day Community Day yearly wrap up. We should all feel confident that additional events are still to be announced, but we would be remiss if we didn’t discuss just how full the calendar has become. It isn’t just events, but limited timed events like Spotlight Hours and Raid Days. The calendar is packed with them, creating a very destination event style gameplay loop.
We dig in to what the packed calendar means for casuals and core Trainers, and how FOMO is bound to make a strong return next Season. We are eager to hear your feedback on how you feel having events happening every weekend, 3 times during the week, and overarching throughout the month. One thing is for certain, there is no shortage of gameplay to experience.
As we prepare for the Wild Area in a few weeks, we still need to get through Mankey Community Day, which will also be doubling as a holiday food drive. The Simply Groundbreaking event introduces DMAX Drilbur, which will be your best counter for Toxtricity. Is the Community ready to go back to focusing on One Star Max Battles? We shall see!

It’s been a big week in Pokémon GO with the release of Gigantamax Pokémon causing quite the stir. The Community sentiment over the mechanic is split, and it seems like community size plays a very important role. We start with a recap and work our way through the news, but the looming GMAX conversation is heard throughout the episode.
November is already here and we have our final month of Max Out in front of us. We will be having a very Raid heavy November as we work towards the Wild Area. With the return of many familiar Legendaries and a packed Raid Hour lineup, we will be very busy. The start of the month brings us GO Battle Weekend into the Harvest Festival. Could this be the calm before the storm?
The big news is the community sentiment over the release of GMAX> With large communities of 30+ having amazing activations, while others, are so down on the mechanic that they don’t even try. We have plenty to say on the topic, including an interesting take from Adam.
We also announce our social experiment, the New Hampshire Rural Community Project. This 6 month initiative is designed to build an organized community of Trainers in rural Rochester, New Hampshire. Stay tuned for details and progress over the next few months!

The Gigantamax Hype Train is arriving at the station and Trainers are ready to get on board. GMAX Raids have simultaneously renewed the spirits of many IRL communities while also drawing the ire of some Trainers online. The game has changed, the map has changed, and the way we interact with other Trainers around us has changed. GMAX is here and we are all for it.
We start with a recap of last week’s gameplay including Magnetic Study, Yamask Research Day, and the kickoff of the Halloween Event. Niantic has been keeping their foot on the throttle all Season and it doesn’t appear it will let up anytime soon. You can even find more to do at Walmarts this week as they are Niantic’s newest sponsor. Gram some PGO exclusive gift cards while you’re there, just in time for the holidays.
The Halloween festivities continue next week with Part 2 of the event landing. Gigantamax Gengar is leading the charge of Pokémon decked out in costumes. We have 2 new costumes this event, and a bunch of past costumes coming back as well. The shiny chase will be pretty strong throughout the event.
Max Mondays will be a new weekly staple event bringing a single Dynamax Pokémon to all Power Spots for an hour. We discuss how being a core PGO Trainer takes significant commitment, with the game asking for more and more of our time.
Ken will be all over NJ battling GMAX Pokémon this weekend in Red Bank on Saturday, and Nutley on Sunday. Check out our Twitter for Campfire links to each of those Ambassador Events!

Niantic is making it harder and harder to talk about topics other than the news! October has been a non-stop barrage of events, updates, and content from Niantic, with Trainers barely having a moment to catch their breath. We run through our gameplay from the last week including GIovanni, Mega Mawile, and the current Magnetic Study. It has been a busy week to say the least.
Yamask Research Day is this weekend and only adds to the back to back nature of events this month. It makes for the perfect primer for Part 1 of the Halloween Event which lands next week. Morepeko is absolutely making things interesting as is the event and its multiple ways to engage with it. Those chasing Morpeko will need to grind some GBL while those not looking to dig in too deep will stick to the Timed Research. We also can’t forget about Spiritomb, who will be in Field Research making for a fun grind.
The big news of the week was the announcement of Gigantamax, and the upcoming events to support it. It looks like we will be seeing the Kanto Starters Gigantamax Forms in November, with a very interesting new way to lobby up. With up to 40 Trainers taking on a Gigantamax Pokémon at the same time, it will be interesting to see how many Communities can fill a lobby and get through the coordination needed to plan a large scale Gigantamax Battle. Let’s also not forget that we are still seeing plenty of Power Spots at home based businesses, which makes you wonder if Gigantamax locations will be curated or random.
An unexpected update hit the news feed of Trainers in the Seattle and Bellevue Washington area, notifying them that the Pokémon Playgrounds AR Experience was available to them at select Gyms and Stops. We look back to 2017 when Niantic first mentioned Playground, which makes it running live in 2024 even more awesome. We dig in to how the Lightship VPS may play an intrical role in Playground, and how it could shape the way we interact with the game at IRL events.
