22/25/27 Tips Out of Control; Stereotypes are Real; Life Goals Karel Cast 24-58
22/25/27 Tips Out of Control; Stereotypes are Real; Life Goals Karel Cast 24-58 After having my jaw drilled, sanded and a screw put in I went for take out and the tip screen sent me over the edge: 22/25/27 were the choices…what happened to 15% ? Tipping is out of control and now they want more and more and more. How much do you tip? And do you feel compelled to ALWAYS tip, even at places you didn't before? Stereotypes are real. Some are derogatory and some are often used against people, but let's be real, they're real. Like, bitchy waiters being gay…SOME ARE! Sociologists deal in generalizations and most generalizations are based in fact. A woman swims 30 miles to an island. Diana Nyad swam to Cuba. This time on Code WACK! In honor of Mother's Day, we're talking about how our dysfunctional health insurance system affects moms. How did our broken healthcare system push our guest, Rebecca Wood, to delay her own care for the sake of her daughter Charlie, with devastating consequences? How has Rebecca’s life been transformed since she testified before Congress in 2019 about the impossible choices she faced? This is the first of two podcast episodes featuring Rebecca Wood. Before Pessimism Practice Gratitude; Trump v. Everyone; Pageants over? Karel Cast 24-57
Before Pessimism Practice Gratitude; Trump v. Everyone; Pageants over? Karel Cast 24-57 Gratitude. For the big things. For the little things. In today's world we are not trained to practice gratitude. Pessimism, discontent, upset, fear, yes; gratitude, no. But there are things every day for which we all should be grateful. Today, I'm grateful for my patrons. What are you grateful for? Trump v. Everyone. Is he going to have the final laugh and win it all? Miss USA resigned. Miss Teen USA Resigned. The runner up doesn't want the title. Is this a symptom of a bigger problem that we need to get rid of pageants all together? Watch on YouTube and listen wherever you get your podcast. President Biden Announces New Tariffs on Chinese EVs, Semiconductors, Solar Cells and More
Leslie is joined by Scott Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), a partnership established by some of America’s leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers union. First, Scott breaks down today's move by President Biden to levy new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, semiconductors, batteries, solar cells, steel and aluminum. The tariffs on Chinese EVs will rise to 100%, quadrupling the current tariff of 25%. It's the latest bid by the Biden administration to keep China from undercutting U.S. companies and threatening U.S. manufacturing jobs, many of which are union jobs. Second, Leslie and Scott discuss yesterday's Substack piece by Elizabeth Pancotti at Roosevelt Forward, titled, "Why It’s Good, Actually, That You Can’t Buy the World’s Cheapest Electric Vehicle." (Link--> https://rooseveltforward.substack.com/p/why-its-good-actually-that-you-cant) Next, Scott explains why what’s happening at ports in Belgium should worry both American automakers and policymakers. Finally, Leslie and Scott explore how America is at a crossroads when it comes to trade policy. For over 16 years, Scott Paul and AAM have worked to make American manufacturing a top-of-mind issue for voters and our national leaders through effective advocacy, innovative research, and a savvy public relations strategy. Their website is www.AmericanManufacturing.org and their handle on X is @KeepItMadeInUSA. Scott's handle is @ScottPaulAAM.

A Turning Point - Catching Up
I was intrigued (and relieved) to read about a high school principal who makes students place their smartphones in a lock-bag for the school day. Tensions are down and grades are up. This commonsense solution to the blight of phones in the classroom is a good example of how technology outruns us until we understand it well enough to take advantage of it while holding its worst aspects at bay. This short commentary looks at the constant battle to keep up. I hope you’ll listen.

YOU ARE AT RISK; Backing Wrong Industries; A Legend Dies Karel Cast 24-56
YOU ARE AT RISK; Backing Wrong Industries; A Legend Dies Karel Cast 24-56 A new report says 90% of people over 20 in the USA are at risk of heart disease. Why? Lifestyle (Lack of exercise, obesity, high blood pressure). So basically everyone . Why? Why can't we seem to get it right? It's not hard. So what's the problem. Oh, that's simple. The Auto industry help "build" America. The Meat and Dairy industry is a backbone of American business. Wall Street is so revered politicians will pass laws to protect it and spend billions to prop it up. AirBnB, Uber all deprive hotels and taxis of work…why in the USA and world do we back all the WRONG Industries. There is $ in the right things, but no one will do it, is it OK BOOMER? Are BOOMERS the problem? A legend, a nice man, and an acquaintance of mine is dead. That's two losses in two weeks for me. Grief is not fun. Watch on YouTube and listen wherever you get your podcast. PORK WORM ATE BRAIN; Apple Crushes Creativity? Trump Ever Tried Karel Cast 24-54 Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he had a pork worm eat his brain and gave him brain damage. And he wants to be President and calls Biden infirm. How do you know if you have a parasite and how do you get them? And did he really have them. Does Donald Trump? Does #MAGA ? Have they just been eating too much raw bacon? Donald's Delays are working. He's not going to trial before the election for the biggest of his crimes. Why? Out of control judges that side with him or delay his trials. From the Supreme Court to local judges, they are, in fact, protecting him and treating him differently. Apple has introduced some pretty cool iPad upgrades, and the commercial that they are using to promote them is causing all kinds of trouble amongst online creators. But is it just fake outrage? Code Wack - Can single-payer advocates overcome the 'narcissism of small differences'?
This time on Code WACK! With all its apparent advantages, why hasn’t California passed single payer yet? Is organized labor fully in the Medicare-for-All game? Do managed care providers - like Kaiser Permanente - have outsized influence on healthcare reform in the state? To find out, we spoke to Peter Shapiro, a retired letter carrier and author of Song of the Stubborn One Thousand: the Watsonville Canning Strike (Haymarket Books 2016). He represented his union at the founding conference of the Labor Campaign for Single Payer in 2009 and has been involved with the issue ever since.
