Join host Kira Gowan and a guest as they remember and revisit pop culture from the past.
Woah. You guys. This episode is extra super special. I am joined by a teen. While our cultural references may differ, we both discovered the movie Clueless around the same age (though I'm pretty sure Nakalia never had it on VHS, like I did.)
PLUS, get the scoop on the latest in fashion. Seriously, there's a lot of fashion talk in this one and it's super interesting.
Enjoy!
It's time again for cat and dog chat with Katie and Kira! And I guess we also talk about a movie that we both used to watch a lot.
9 Reasony why Adults Should Never Watch The NeverEnding Story Acorns and Oaks
Sorry for the skipped weeks, friends. Sometimes there's just too much life stuff going on. But, I'm back with a bang, and by bang I mean extra fun long episode with my very thoughtful and entertaining friend Andy, who knows and loves this movie so well that he could recite it all from memory.
Join us as we get into the goofs and gags of this bonkers movie. Do you think a movie made in the 90's that centers around a fat camp is going to hold up in today's body-positive culture? Are summer camps problematic in the way they deal with Native American culture? Is Ben Stiller kind of a babe? Listen and find out.
It was really nice to talk to Nick about a very fun and educational math TV show that's definitely not as nerdy as he made it sound.
Katie introduces me to Little Monsters, a fever dream of a movie with a very disconcerting main character.
Join me and Cameron as we watch the movie version of a 1990's screensaver!
This episode is proooobbbbabbbly going to be more fun if you're pretty familiar with the movie. Molly and I tried out something folks have been suggesting I do for a long time, which is to record while we're watching the movie. You won't be able to watch along with us, because I cut down the two hour movie to a one-ish hour collection of all of the fun parts.
I hope you enjoy the episode as much as Molly and I enjoyed watching Fantasia. Turns out that movie is dope as hell.
What better time to discuss a movie that has dubious ideas about sexuality and consent than in #MeToo focused 2018? This episode gets real real. Also, you're going to hear a lot of disgusted sighs from me. I just want you to know that I edited probably more than half of them out.
Are you ready for another episode with a lot of singing? Good, because this is one. And it's not just songs from Newsies. This episode is a doozie (a newsiedoozie?) for folks who like musicals. I think we reference probably 10 non-Newsies musicals, at least. Drew is a bonafide Newsies expert, and no slouch on American history either, and I'm glad she agreed to record this episode with me, even though it was very late at night and you can hear us getting progressively sleepier as the episode goes on. Oh, and The dance move the name of which has eluded me since Phantom is, in fact, a barrel kick. I looked it up. Here's (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP90LPQ-DO4) someone named Nick doing a whole bunch of good ones. Thanks, Nick! Oh, and somehow Drew thought it was totally obvious that Paul Dano is a celebrity that I would have a crush on. I'm still working out what that says about me.
Josh Hollis (Predict-O-Cast, Butterfly Kisses ), joins me to discuss a lesser-known classic in the Rankin/Bass Christmas Collection, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. This movie is a lot of fun, probably in large part because it's kind of short, just like these episode notes!
