Jay talks to Dennis all about his journey into entrepreneurship including how he used his expertise to build a 7-figure business as well as how he helps other entrepreneurs with their own start-ups. Dennis and Jay also reveal the secrets to creating a business that can scale both quickly and sustainably.

    • As a small business, you can be adaptable and easily differentiate yourself. You can’t always be better than your competitors, but you can easily be different.
    • Sales and marketing should always be the two things you focus on first. If they aren’t driving the business, then you won’t be able to scale.
    • Don’t waste time on tasks that don’t add revenue. As a business owner your focus should be on revenue-generating tasks or that grow the business. Anything else is a distraction.

A Free Marketing Strategy that Got Me a 7 Figure Client!

Discover today the one thing that can help you capture new and lucrative clients to your business. Today, Jay discusses the importance of over-delivering to your clients, why you should always aim to solve your clients’ problems and why referrals can eventually make you more money than marketing can.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • When you’re going into a meeting with a client make sure you listen to them. Don’t just tell them what your product delivers because what you can offer them is more valuable than what your product and service actually does.

    • When a client calls you and they really need your help, you have the upper hand in negotiations. Always go high and see what happens.

    • If you over-deliver and offer a service that the client needs, that will bring you so much more revenue in sales than what marketing can. You have got to get that service level right. It doesn’t matter how much you spend on marketing if you can provide the solution to their problems, that will increase your profits.

    • You have got to deliver a high level of service to your clients. A lot of people are preaching about the power of marketing (which definitely helps), but if your product or service doesn’t deliver or help your client then you’re never going to win. You can spend thousands on marketing but if you cannot deliver, they will never recommend you to others and you will have wasted your money.

    • Referrals will eventually make you more money than marketing because referrals are when someone tells another person about your product and service and then you are in a win-win situation. Before you start your marketing, go back to your existing client base and make sure you are over-delivering your service. Ask them if they are happy with your service and if they would refer your services.

    BEST MOMENTS

“When everyone switched off, we were available.”

“They then had recommended us to another client, can you see the power in that?”

“We try and go in there and make that client ours for the next three or four years.”

One For The History Books (Highs & Lows of 2020)

The year 2020 has been one for the history books and there has been highs and lows for everybody. Today, we take a look back on the highlights of The Business Mentor Podcast where we’ve had some amazing guests such as Grant Cardone and David McCourt. From pandemic predictions to inspiring guidance this episode contains it all from some of the best business brains around the world.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Coronavirus isn’t going away. If you were to put scientists and entrepreneurs in the same room, things get solved. People once said that ‘cash is trash’ however nobody is saying that now since having cash is vital. There has never been a more important time to learn how to negotiate and sell that today, if you know how to negotiate and sell and you can’t leave your house, then you can pick up your phone and make some sales.

    • You are either creating or destroying your empire with every single decision you make. Set yourself up for the other side of this pandemic, it will make your enemies hate you even more because you will be successful. This year has been a big eye-opener to see who has been there and who hasn’t.

    • If you hang around with idiots, you’ve got a high chance of being an idiot. If you hang around successful people, you have a high chance of being successful. Face your fears and make fear your friend, break fear down and eventually you will see that what you feared is not so scary.

    • Look at the steps you need to take to be a better leader, and apply them to your life. Somebody could take away all your possessions, but they can never take away the value you bring and the hours of training that you have given yourself.

    BEST MOMENTS

    “Everybody should have a mentor.”

“The more that you can trust each other within your roles, the less likely you are going to be to stop trying to vie for positions.”

“That’s when I burned my bridges and said ‘I have got to be responsible.”

“I am going to be stronger than ever when this is over.”

The Top 5 Lessons Of 2020!

The year 2020 has been difficult for everyone and you are likely to have learned some lessons along the way. Listen in today as Jay discusses how this year taught him to always being prepared for unforeseen circumstances, how to make things happen rather than waiting for things to happen as well as understanding that this too shall pass, and soon a new sense of normality shall resume.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Don’t put starting your business idea off. The pandemic has taught us that if you have an idea, go for it because you never know what is just around the corner. If you have got a good idea, just go with it and execute it quickly. More doing, less thinking. You will learn more by doing something rather than just thinking about it.

    • Don’t wait for things to happen, make them happen. Many people are waiting for things to return to normal however the truth is things may never return to ‘normal’. It is how you react to the ‘new normal’ which will make all the difference, you have to make your business moves now and don’t wait for things to return to how they once were.

    • Always be prepared. It is always important to have a plan to pivot when a crash comes, always plan like you anticipate something is going to happen. If you’re prepared for an unforeseen market crash, you can move and adapt quickly.

    • This too shall pass. Things will get back to some sort of normality in the future. Don’t stress about things so much, if you’re making the right pivots and trying to move yourself forward then you will get past this situation. The market always comes back, it is where you are going to be in that chain of thoughts.

    • Keep focused and surround yourself with the right people. Mentors are great because they will push you in the right direction. A mentor will always look at a solution to your problem and will help you to find ways in which you can move forward. They will look at their past experience and use this to allow you and your business to move in the right direction.

    BEST MOMENTS

“I don’t think anybody has been through this before and I don’t think anybody’s been able to analyse it.”

“This was a market crash like we’ve never seen before. We’ve never seen the amount of money that has been pumped into the economy and the amount of wealth that has been created.”

“You have got to look at how you can pivot, and then make the move.”

Getting The Right Start to 2021 - The Business And Personal Success Plan

Get Your FREE 2021 plan at Jay-dhillon.com

The year 2020 has been a tough year for everybody and there have been many lessons learnt in the world of business. Join Jay today as he details his new, free Business And Personal Success Plan which can allow you to plan the future of your business, overcome challenges and grow even during the toughest times.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • The 2020 Coronavirus pandemic has taught many people tough lessons in business. Some businesses have survived and others have not. Business is always changing, this year was just on a grander scale. The business industry could change every day, it is about being prepared if you wish to succeed.

    • Having some form of plan is helpful when things in your industry change, and you need to pivot. Nobody could have predicted COVID, however it is wise to always plan for a market crash or shift in the industry. Having a plan can allow you to strategize and move quicker. Many entrepreneurs plan, but they do not have the right plan. If you spend time on your plan, it means more to you and you are likely to stick to it.

    • Whilst it is important to have a vision, many people forget to look at other key areas such as competition. The Business And Personal Success plan is about mapping your business journey and taking your business into an asset. Creating an asset for your business is important as you want this business to give you the freedom and flexibility to do what you want to do.

    • You need to focus on both your personal and business goals and put these both in your plan. Planning is a foundational step to take your business to success. Failing to plan will not make you or your business succeed. Many people create small plans but do not take into account the wider picture.

    • Once you create your plan, ensure that you sit down with somebody and ask them to challenge you. Mentors that have been there and done that will challenge you on your plan and give you advice on how you can adapt and change it for you to succeed.

    BEST MOMENTS

    “Planning is critical”

“If you’re not turning your business into an asset, you are creating a job.”

“ This is a free plan that you can take away yourself.”

World Boxing Champion - JOHNNY NELSON: Facing Your FEARS and Creating A CHAMPION MINSDET - With Jay Dhillon

“Failure is common to most people, but there are ways and things that you can do to avoid it.” In today’s episode of The Business Mentor podcast, Jay interviews Former undefeated WBO World Champion boxer and serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, Johnny Nelson. Together they discuss what it takes to be successful and how to elevate your personal and business life in this enthralling episode.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Quitting should never be a habit when you face challenges. You have to keep on putting even more effort in and look at the challenge at a different angle and try to solve it because quitting does not mean that challenges are over.

    • Lack of discipline makes a lot of people fail in their lives. Success is not easy to achieve, if your focus is to attain a particular goal in your life, you have to be very disciplined, such that nothing can derail you from achieving your purpose.

    • Habit is everything. Make it a habit to do that thing that helps you achieve your goals. Once your thirst is quenched by achieving your goals, you need to find a new motivation to make your calendar stay there.

    • Wisdom is something that is achieved over time. You have to go through good and bad experiences to know how to manoeuvre through challenges that come your way.

    • The upbringing of someone is very crucial to what they become later on in their lives and if someone is brought up with a very good foundation, he or she will probably be a very significant or successful person in society.

    • For you to succeed you have to have mentors who have the foresight and understanding and selflessness to help you. They help you find comfort in discomfort, by believing in you more than you even believe in yourself and once you are comfortable in those situations, you can do anything you can to achieve anything.

    • Keep the negativity out of your mind and keep the negative people far away from you if you want to succeed in life. Never listen to what negative people say to you, but keep pushing on because if you do, you are the fool and not them.

    BEST MOMENTS

“Some people are born knowing their path in life, others fall upon their path in life and some it's forced upon them.”

“If you create good habits, they will affect every aspect of your life.”

“If you knock about with idiots, you've got more chances of being an idiot.”

“Ego is our biggest downfall as human beings.”

“You can always remember the truth, you can't remember a lie.”

     “Success breeds success.”

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0 to 500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all with no investment other than a slight amount of savings. Its immense success inevitably brought about outside interest, and at the age of 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to succeed as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast.

Is It Time To Go ALL IN Or Do You Need To HOLD BACK?

Should you all in or should you hold back? This is a question that runs quite frequently in the entrepreneurs' mind, and in this episode, Jay shares some detailed tips and advice on how you can approach this question. If you’re at a crossroads with your business or new start up this episode is for you.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Before you decide whether to go all-in or you decide to hold back on an opportunity presented to you by life, you've got to look at two things, best case scenario and worst-case scenario. You got to base it on logic, not emotion because when emotion is high, intelligence is low.

    • Emotions hinder so many people from achieving their goals or becoming successful maybe because they feared doing something and failed previously.

    • Do is your own research. As an entrepreneur, it's good to hear what other people are saying or reading, but it is even wiser to do your own research and not be highly dependent on the thoughts of others. Research will make you go deeper and challenge your thought process rather than jumping in based on hearsay.

    • Are you secure financially? When you invest all of your money in one opportunity, you need to know what your fall-back is when things don't go as planned.

    • If you're going for an opportunity, you need to make sure that you look at your downside as well as the upside, but if you are confused when making that final decision, it would be wise to also involve a mentor.

    BEST MOMENTS

“When emotion is high intelligence is low.”

“The more research you do into a topic, into an area, into an opportunity, the better you will get of taking hold of the opportunity.”

“When you go into something full in, and you've not researched it, it's a difficult loss.”

“If you are putting all that you got in an opportunity you didn’t research on, you are gambling.”

“Your position will be different from somebody else's position.”

“If you're testing it, then it may be a good idea to look at this on a contract role, rather than taking someone on full time.”

“Before you go into growth, or looking to make some mega spends, then have a look at getting the advice.”

    'Screw It Let’s Do It”

When emotion is high, intelligence is low. Business built off of emotion, the emotion of ‘screw it, let’s do it’ often fail. Why? Because there is no research, planning, growth strategy and exit strategy. In today’s episode, Jay dives into the mentality needed to succeed in business with logic, preparation and planning and why starting a business driven by emotion don’t always work.

Coming soon. Free resources and Success Plans available on The Business Mentor website. (Jay-dhillon.com)

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • A business should be built on logic, planning, strategy, profitability, growth and an exit strategy and not just an emotion.

    • If you’re looking to start a business make sure you do the research. Emotion gives us a momentum where we think we can ‘just make it happen’ but the devil is in the detail.

    • When starting a business you must test the demand in the market and research the industry downside and upside before going all in.

    • The reality of starting a business kicks in when you’ve launched your PR campaign, you’ve set everything up and your sat in a quiet office. This why you must test and research everything from your demand to your exit strategy before launching and not get caught up in the emotion of the idea.

    • A lot of people lose a lot of money with the ‘Screw it let’s do it’ mentality when going into business. To be successful you need to look beyond the headline of a business opportunity. Do the research and develop a growth strategy and an exit strategy before making the leap.

    BEST MOMENTS

“In business, strategy and logic always win”

“When emotion is high go into research mode.”
