Discussions, ideas, commentary, interviews, etc., all dealing with ways of finding bits of success throughout life and try to apply it to the areas we need. We all have different forms of success and we all need the tools to help us do just that in our lives.
Stumbled across a reminder that I needed and it came from Damon West (@damonwest7) “Don't forget that being a Coffee Bean starts with YOU! Create positivity from the inside out and not the outside in.” This reminder came of course at a time when I needed to hear it and I hope it’s the same for you too. There are a number of good points here for all of us to take in and keep with us for sure. It’s all about the things we can control, letting go of the clutter around us and to keep striving to be our best! #BeACoffeeBean Thanks for listening. Woke up early this morning as I not only was looking forward to a good cup of coffee to start my day off with, but I was also feeling a little bit worried about things, feeling anxious too. I’m trying to take those things on with more meditation / prayer, along with “doing something” instead of worrying & feeling anxiety. So, I was compelled to get up and do some reading and reflecting. Early mornings are always a joy to me to start my day off in a great direction. Picked up my copy of “Arete” - where this book, written by Brian Johnson, helps me to find and activate my heroic potential. Also, a big shout out to Chris Tessmar who recently sent me a note, thanking me for recommending this book on my show. Sounds like he picked up a copy and he is making some great connections with the lessons found in it. This section today from pages 293 & 294, is all about the comparison between Mediocrity vs. Excellence. A big thing that I found out were all the synonyms for Mediocrity. There are many such as unremarkable, lackluster, unexciting, just to name a few. But Brian noted that from the Thesaurus he was using there was only ONE antonym for it. That word was Excellent! It’s a great reminder that by just simply trying to do our best, putting in a little bit of effort, we can be a bit above mediocrity. Doing this every day of our lives is something special and it’s just between you and the person you see in the mirror. This reminder was what I woke up this morning looking to be reminded of. Hope this helps you any time of the day when you come across this episode. Go out and be your heroic best today and every day!! Oh... before I forget, HERE is the link from the Brian Buffini podcast where he interviews Derek Daly... Awesome & powerful lessons found in this show too. Thanks for listening. Found a powerful connection to a podcast from Ben Newman. His podcast called “The Burn” had a guest Mathiew Wilson and they shared some so many amazing lessons that we all can learn from. This is a must listen to - find it HERE. It gets me thinking of the things I can do (and need to do) every single day! It’s a reminder that the only one we are competing against, is the person we were yesterday. PLEASE.. listen to the actual podcast from Ben & Mathiew - it’s priceless!! This little Facebook Live video I did doesn’t really do it justice. I’ve listened to it 3 times already and there will be more for sure. Thanks for listening. Inside our Mental Toughness Academy with Ben Newman (from the Burn Podcast), I find connections to people every single day. Recently I found a post that really got me reflecting. It comes from Gerald Brian, one of the many people in this group that I get the pleasure of learning from and getting to know a little bit too. Gerald posted this: “The key to success is not just Information, The Key to success is PEOPLE. No one can fill purpose in insolation. Every teacher needs students, you can't be a good husband without a wife. You need people. Let's connect to network with one another.”
I thanked him for giving me permission to share this post as I really think it’s spot on in today’s information driven world. In today’s world, information is important more than ever. We’ve seen it in politics, business, families, friends, career areas, etc. There is tons and tons of information out there and not all of it is truthful / correct. So it takes people to make sure we are connecting with each other to help each other making sure it’s good information to make decisions with. Another thing is how fast things are changing, sent, etc. People are the ones that need to have "aggressive patience" as Ben mentions a lot and I know I need to put that into practice too. Life is better with people, my friends. Relationships are the key point throughout life and when life comes to an end, as it will for all of us, that is what I think a life well-lived can be measured by. Thanks for listening. Found another great reminder that I think many in the world need to remind themselves of, about what is truly impressive. The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) gives us a fantastic reminder. It’s not the money, status, job titles, etc. It really comes down to how we treat others. There seems to be plenty of examples all over the place of how to NOT treat others. It’s too bad there are so many. It’s up to us to try and show others the correct way to do this. The world needs us to step up and do this the right way. Thanks for listening. When you are looking for good things… they usually show up. I found another good thing from Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) and he puts out the intro: “What is Grit? Here’s my formula.” It’s a very easy to understand “formula” that we all can connect with and use in our lives. There are so many to connect with and for me, a guy that wasn’t great with math or science formulas back in school, this is a formula that I totally can work with. I hope you can too. It seems we all need to have a bit more Grit throughout life than ever before. Thanks for listening. Found another super reminder (maybe it’s just for me) that got me reflecting on some recent events and how I react. Tiny Buddha (@tinybuddha) posts this: ““Life becomes more peaceful when you truly understand and embody the idea that you can’t keep stressing over what’s beyond your control. Life will happen, and people will do and say what they want. All you can do is focus on what you can change and let the rest be.” - @VexKing. This is of course much more difficult than simply reading it and doing it without any issues. I know that I need to keep working on this skill, especially with recent events. I’m interested to hear how others take this on. Thanks for listening. I connected with a different post here, and it was good timing for me with what is going on around us for sure. Strong Minded (@strongminded101) reminds us about this truth - “It’s not time that heals. It’s what you do with that time.” There is a lot of healing that is always needed throughout life, for every single human that has been on earth. Seems recently, we need new levels of healing. So, instead of just letting time go by - it’s important that each of us look to invest / spend / use the time to help make things better for ourselves and others. Always remember, your investment in yourself is the best investment you can ever do. I, for one, am doing just that. No sense in complaining and getting worked up about things that are totally out of my control. Thanks for listening. Found a great connection with a recent post and Mitch Albom’s Tuesday People Podcast. Find the link HERE for his interview with Aaron Lazar where he is sharing the story of his diagnosis with ALS and the fact that he’s not caught up with wasting his time on things that he can’t control and don’t represent any value to his life. The post came from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it was a powerful & quick reminder: “If you don’t prioritize your life, someone else will.” These go hand in hand in reminding me, what am I spending my time and efforts on? It got me thinking that I need to not only make sure I ask this question to the many staring back at me in my mirror each day, but also… who do I want driving “my bus” throughout my life? Good questions for all of us to ask ourselves. Thanks for listening. Found a great thought here to take on a bit more of reflection for all of us. I know I’m taking it on for sure. From Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) - “Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” - George Bernard Shaw. The journey we are all on is more about a continuous creation of ourselves, rather than finding ourselves along the way. Our journey should not be defined by finding ourselves into any type of career, or how much money we make, or titles we attain. It’s about building our life to the best version of ourselves that we can, each and every day of our lives. Good stuff to take a long for sure. Thanks for listening. Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) This first one reminds us that if we don’t sacrifice for our goals and dreams, those goals and dreams may end up being sacrificed for the work we didn’t do. With time going by so fast, it seems to me that I have a lot more work & effort I need to put into making some dreams / goals a reality. How about you? On the second plate for today’s self improvement snack was from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard), where this one reminds us to make sure we have discipline on the days we don’t feel good or feel like doing things. That’s when we really need it. Yep.. comes back to standards over feelings for me on this one. The old saying is that discipline weighs ounces, regret weighs tons! As I’m getting older, I don’t want to look at regrets. Thanks for listening.
